The Club condone this in a way by not stopping the bars continuing to serve these people alcohol when they have had too much.

If you're going to get wound up by away fans being away fans maybe don't sit near the away fans
In his defence how would he have known that he was going to be seated with a bunch of snowflakes and mums with their children and not a bunch of seasoned elite NSC’s posters who remembered the good old days and would have seen his back. #Football today.

1) I don’t want to know him.
2) Getty gobby whilst there’s a safe divide, and wrestling with female stewards doesn’t strike me as someone I should be worried about? Or have I misread his hard man credentials?
3) I can run fast, especially after I’ve clunked him with my man bag.

He comes from a family that have supported the Albion home and away for generations. His behaviour at this time was obviously overly boisterous but of course he did not mean to hurt a female steward. Because of this one mistake, you have cowardly, got gobby over the safe internet divide and insulted his looks, called him a moron, tit, knob-head, tw@t and a coward. Pot, kettle, black.

And people wonder why there is no atmosphere at the Amex!?!

You can't have it both ways. If you want a ground full of people who want to sit on their hands and ignore abuse then those same people are just going to sit on their hands throughout the game.

Much ado about nothing this story the steward copped an unfortunate one whilst doing the job she is paid to do. Occupational hazard I'm afraid. Argus have ticked all tabloid boxes of sensationalism.

Appreciate that is their job but what I don't get is the people on here who go to football who buy the nonsense they print.

That not really an excuse though is it? I could lose my head and have a tear up with a Watford fan tomorrow very doubtful at my age, yet a plea of supporting the Albion for 40 years won’t make any difference in court.

From that article...

"The incident unfolded in front of families and children at the game, Brighton Magistrates’ Court was told."

...coming in the same week the club have bumped a load of families closer to the away fans and guaranteed baiting most weeks.

No it isn't. He apologised and admitted his guilt. He did a silly thing and is paying the price. Fair enough. Doesn't really call for the personal abuse from Lord Haw Haw though.

This is all down to bad stewarding. From my seat in the North I could see Villa fans abusing and goading people across the segregation for most of the game, they've basically picked the easiest target rather than do anything about the bigger group of away fans.

It looks like this bloke has reacted to the abuse and then been singled out by the stewards for having a go back. He's obviously felt aggrieved and refused to go quietly when they chuck him out but let the Villa fans get away with it.

He made a stupid mistake by not just leaving when asked and he's paid a heavy price with a conviction for assault because someone got struck in the melee.

It's an unfortunate situation and someone has made some bad decisions, I'm not sure that warrants any personal abuse or making him out to be the scum of the earth.

I sort of agree with both of these.

If you're going to sit families next to the away fans then you need to make sure that the stewarding is absolutely consistant across the two groups of fans. Anything that will upset the families coming from the away end should be cracked down on exactly as anything coming from home fans next to them. From observing some of what went on from WSU and reading that over sensational Argus report it is quite clear that different stewarding standards were applied across ten metres of magic mesh.

Personally, if you're going to crack down on both sides then as Arthur says you might as well kiss goodbye to what precious little atmosphere remains. What would make sense for everyone is to put a singing section in the SWC and concentrate the family area at the north end of the East Stand.

This means massive moves around for large groups who won't be happy so it's never going to happen.

I don't have a lot either, but being a bit of a tit on matchday would see a lot of people banned.....

Well, you can be a tit, you can be asked to stop, you can stop . . . . .or you can tell the steward to eff off, and then get into a flailing arms fandango.

You can stop, or you can carry on and get a ban.

You can stop, or...

You can stop.

If a lot of people decide not stopping is the better plan, yes, they may get banned.

Nothing to see here

Maybe the club anticipate less tension next season in the championship.

Did he get served at the club then or did he start in the pubs, get to the ground and his mate bought him more once he arrived at the ground.I'm not sure the club can take any responsibility for a person having too much to drink.

But are the kids on the counter just told to churn the drinks out to make money or act responsibly like a pub landlord would do?

Exactly this.

He had plenty of opportunity to stop being a bellend and return to his seat. Instead, he felt he hadn't finished showing everyone in the stand how HARD and MACHO he is, so he just carried on being a thickit and cracked on regardless of the consequences. So I have zero sympathy.

Its a piece of piss not acting like a moron at a game.

I haven't read the whole thread. The OP's line was that the punishment was harsh. The first couple of replies (and my view) is 'nothing to see here'.

Others pointed out that in general terms it is unfair on families to be stuck next to agressive abusive away fans. That is a point, although I am not sure this bloke was protecting the dignity of his family in a rightous protest against bad language.

You could argue, also, that swapping families for a contingent of hard core lads in the SE corner is also not the way forward. Better policing of the away fans might be nice. Perhaps having a barrier between home and away fans might be better. Like that big old fence halfway along the terrace at Ninian Park, which you will remember....

I make no comment about the bloke. I don't know him. And in any case, that would be irrelevant.

As for atmosphere, I don't think it is a case of turn a blind eye to people doing the 'hold me back' dance or accept no atmosphere. I make plenty of noise at the football, but have never yet been tempted to run over to the opposition fans to put them right over their stupid devotion to Fred Nietzsche when Carl Popper's ideas are obviously superior.

I do agree with you about the Argus. I would never buy it. Always hated Andy Naylor. But you can read these reports for free online.
