It's almost as if some people have forgotten the shite football Adam's teams play.

Yeah getting us to a league title was awful and being in the top 7 of the higher division was poor too.

Then onto taking Leicester up........ok he took them down, but what have they acheived since he left?

Also Coventry havent aheived anything and half the fans wanted him to stay..

I couldnt say mate....I would say that on the whole the performaces would have been better and im sure the gates would have been higher. I am also quite sure that Adams would have got the best out of everyone of the players. If that would have got us enough points to finish above leeds..your guess is as good as mine.

fair enough, we will never know. I just think Adams is going to have a lot to do if he is going to BETTER the signings of Murray, Forster, Whing etc. But if he does, then yes promotion may be in the frame, although I think this years league will be a lot tougher than the one just gone

I didnt realise the play offs was one of the objectives set by the board. Obviously I would have loved to make it there, but we have done much better than the season before.

Lets hope Adams can take us the extra step by signing some quality up there with the calibre of Wilkins signings, and maybe even tempt El Abd into signing his

Difficult though as come Christmas he can look at signing pre-contract agreements and they could lose him for nothing. Also from now on his value drops as the length of time left on his contract shortens.

I would think they will try and punt him over the summer for say 300k and cut their losses.

Either way we mugged them for 1.5 million, so it is all good.

Who was Palmer?

Depends how much he listens to the scouting network.

Will we seen a return of wingers at Withdean?

I concur.

Players like el abd and fraser will be key, as im sure adams will like their style of grit and determination....

So who were the players that Adams attracted to Leicester and Coventry then ? Adams success here was based on two things, signing player he already knew and a certain B. Zamora turning out to be one of this club's greatest strikers. It remains to be seen if he can do that again and going by the teams he's been with since leaving here it's by know means a foregone conclusion.

Murray is definitely a class act and the best striker since Zamora, IMO. Yes - as for raw talent, I really do think he's better than Nicky Forster and Leon Knight.

His movement is intelligent and his first touch is way better than most in this division. I don't even hold him responsible for the number of times he's caught off side. From what I've seen, he's either flagged offside wrongly OR the midfield is simply too slow in giving him the ball. Murray's main weakness is his finishing, but I'm confident that will come good with better fitness and coaching.

Bit harsh on his finishing. I would have thought that was one of his main strengths. 9 in 21 is not a bad ratio. I would agree with the rest though. As I have alluded to elsewhere, my main concern is that MA might not take kindly to his, er, laid-back style outside the box. OK, BZ also had a languid style, but got through more work than he was sometimes given credit for, and he also had a youthful OGH alongside him harrying opposition defences.

Zamora generally played in the a 4-5-1 that became 4-3-3 when we were attacking, Hart and one of Jones or Brooker played out wide and supported him.

In the Division 2 season we played 4-4-2 a bit more, with Steele and occasionally Webb up with him, but again Hart played on the right.

until xmas when we were up there i can't remember the board mentioning the play off's? top 10 was what was mentioned before the season started and we made that

how anyone can think murray has still got to prove himself is a joke! the bloke scored 9 goals from the start of feb till the end of april and also had the ball in the back of the net 4 or 5 times more which shows he knows how to finish and given the right service and a full season he will score goals

im worried about the hype and expectation levels with micky back just hope he proves he's upto the challange

Ryan Palmer.

A young centre back Adams brought down here from Fulham in 1999, hardly played a game for us. I think via a drunken haze he might have played for us at Swansea just before Christmas 1999, but that was the game where most of the squad were out with flu or the like.

Rings a bell now. Thanks.

That's very true, but OGH certainly did a lot of defending from the front.

I don't subscribe to the usual British attitude that to be worth his salt every player has to get stuck in (I was a fan of Paul Brooker, for instance!), but for me Murray's weakness is his tendency to surrender possession cheaply in deeper areas, which puts more pressure on the defence. He could do a lot worse than look at some old videos of John Byrne, who was an absolute master at hold-up play and bringing team mates into the game.

As was Mike Small - what a partnership. As I recall they could keep the ball long enough for the rest of the side to have a cuppa.

No wait a minute byf, don't start quoting results when I am talking about the style of football Adams teams play. The standard of the football is a stick you regularly used to beat Wilkins so don't start making out like it will be better under Adams, because if anything it will be worse.

Don't forget Wilkins also got us a top 7 finish.

Also he get Leicester relegated, OK from the Premiership, but once in the Championship he could not turn things around and was sacked.

At Coventry he made no real impact and was sacked and then has not got / taken another managers job.
