Ankle ligament injury.....

I did exactly the same in my mid 20's pretty painful had to have plaster on it for 10 days.
Luckily it was near the end of the season so i missed 2months then and a further 3months at the start of the new season as i could not kick the ball.

The swelling did seem to take at least 18months to go down properly so i wouldn't worry too much, physio is the way forward.

Not sure what type of footwear you are wearing on a daily basis but i was wearing steel toecap boots and i am convinced they gave me too much support therefore my muscles around my ankles got weak and that was partly why i got the injury as it was not a tackle. So from there on i wore shoes and i never had another ankle problem.

Good luck with it i know how frustrating it can be when all you want to do is play football..

If its any consolation, I rolled my ankle badly about three years ago after being hit in the throat by a bouncer ( trying to get out of the way and landed badly). Anyway, it took about a year of physio to get it back to some sort of normality.

100% recommend physio, ultra sound and massage on it eventually worked but like you I played cricket the next season and after every game, it was RICE - you know Rest - Ice- Compression- Elevation. Eventually it will get better.

Just be thankful it wasnt your achilles - I spent 6 months in plaster and couldnt drive for 9 months!!!!

After rolling my ankle getting off a boat (tearing up ligaments), I did exactly the R.I.C.E. thing for a couple of weeks. My ankle was not used with weight at all for 10 days, I kept it up above my heart-level, iced it regularly before heating it and icing it alternately in the second week.

Taking it easy on that ankle for about 2 months, I gradually started back playing tennis and running and everything was fine after that.

In my opinion the initial 2 weeks are most important to the length of recovery - but that's a fairly obvious statement.

At this point it would seem prudent to do some light stretches before rest or sleep, and stimulate the area whilst not in use. No high-impact until the swelling is gone, and see if you can exercise the ankle by swimming or cycling, where no weight is on the area.

No problem mate - how did you get on?

hey mate was just about to email you........

......went to see him last night - what a nice bloke.

looked at it and was in disbelief about all the cr@p infop and treatment i have been given so far.

said 100% its ot ruptured as its be screaming in agony! :D

has given me a proper balance board to use for 2 weeks. also said put foot in bucket of ice for 10 mins after a game, and not to use the £40 lace up support i've just bought as its too restrictive!! (waste of money!!). instead he wants me to strap it up with proper tape.

going back in 2 weeks to give his board back but he said it will be 100% fine.

CANT RECOMMEND THIS BLOKE HIGHLY ENOUGH FOR ANYONE WITH ANY SPORTING INURIES....

thanx again mate ;)
