I think Ankergren is an overall better keeper than Breadvan. I'd much rather he didn't come out for crosses if he isn't confident doing so and left that for defenders.

Personally, it scares me shitless when keepers come out and to catch a cross. All I can think about it the ball zipping past him to an opposition forward with an open net in front of him.

Lots of keepers have a weakness.Just look at Arsenals sorry pair.Ankergren is in the same mould as an Eric Steele, who seldom came for crosses, but was a great shot stopper.Brave too as he showed yesterday.Prepared to take one for the team.Didn't go off either.
If we were to go up,we'd probably need better.Which is obviously what Leeds thought. At the level we are at now though,he's fine.

I may be alone of this and despite us only conceding 8(?) goals so far this season I still think Brezovan is a much better keeper all round.

The thing is though when Brezovan was playing last season ( and playing very well ) we still had people on here moaning about any faults he had and saying Kuipers should be in goal. Our keepers cant win really.

Still in Brighton
I am astounded at the lunacy displayed by Albion fans on here. This is the keeper who kept quite a few clean sheets and won player of the month is it not. Ankergren is a fantastic goalkeeper and for one we have a very good ball playing keeper who can kick with left/right.

This is why i like him. He is essential to the way Gus wants to play, comfortable receiving the pass back from either centre back and playing it on to the other one. I think that gives confidence to El Abd and Elphick.

Yesterday he broke his nose and the physio put it back into place and played on. Now that's committment!

To be honest, after the first few games of the season, I didn't have much confidence in Ankergren. I thought he would come good, but his lack of confidence after Rochdale seemed to transmit to the fans.

Now it is a different story. I think it is now generally accepted by the fans, management and players that he doesn't like coming for crosses, and when you look past that he is an excellent keeper. His communication with the defence is excellent and I think his all round game is good. I'm much more confident in him than I was. His distribution is also good.

This.

I actually find it strange that he looks so iffy with crosses and corners because every other part of his game is assured. Not sure why he insists on punching everything.

My preference is big pete BUT in fairness flapper deserves to be in the side after his performances this season, and who would you rather have trying to get into the side flapper or Brez?

Please tell me who this bloke looks like. There was another keeper who looked just like him who was possibly Dutch and played for one of the top teams. It's driving me mad.

Hans van Breukelen (sp?) possibly? Nottingham Forest and Holland keeper in the 1970s, moved on to PSV Eindhoven. Can't think of another keeper who was as fair haired, apart from possibly Casper Schmeichel or Joe Hart.

The Football League paper reported that his nose was broken by an elbow. We must have all missed that!

To be honest, I think his biggest fault is playing in goal for Brighton & Hove Albion and not being Michel f***ing Kuipers.

You do have something of a point.

I like how no comment has been made of the fact that he had his nose broken and chose to keep on playing, imagine this board if Kuipers had done that, people would be sending flowers to his house. What does Ankergren get? A thread telling him he's shit.
