Does he ever come for crosses? I actually think he is a decent goalkeeper but he seems VERY reluctant to come out for crosses. Perhaps I'm over critical but I have noticed especially having seen Brezovan in goal there is a huge difference between the two goalkeepers. One dominates his box and the other seems scared to claim the ball. Yesterday for example, Casper punched the ball down instead of holding it, luckily it was cleared. I may be alone of this and despite us only conceding 8(?) goals so far this season I still think Brezovan is a much better keeper all round.

This is not a thread to put a player down, as I think he has done a decent job so far, just an observation from me on what I have seen so far. What do you think? ???

If he does not like coming for them, I would rather he didn't try than attempt it and mess up.

Kuipers did not dominate the box either, but I think Casper's vocal command of the box is better.

I guess if he was a good shot stopper, kicker, cross catcher etc he wouldn't be playing for us.

Would take a bit of pressure off the centre backs mind if he came for the odd cross.

To be honest, I think his biggest fault is playing in goal for Brighton & Hove Albion and not being Michel f***ing Kuipers.

Good thread and valid point.

I would prefer Brezovan in goal, for pure goalkeeping ability. Casper does kick well, but that is about it for me.

However, despite this it is difficult to drop someone who isn't conceding and really not doing much wrong.

Not really. For some maybe but having seen how good Brezovan was at dominating I'm now noticing how uncertain some other goalkeepers can look. I just think he looks very uncertain. Might just be me as I said though in which case fair enough.

At some people, people are going to have to realise not everyone who criticises a brighton goalkeeper are doing so simply because he isn't Kuipers.

It's a fair comment. And the point made in this thread is for once probably quite valid.

But it's bloody pathetic how almost EVERYONE snipes away at Ankergren when he's only actually made one cock-up in 11 games - something that isn't particularly uncommon at League 1 level. The defence is a back five, not a back four. And right now, we've got the best defence in the whole league. Ankergren is a big, big part of that.

To be honest, after the first few games of the season, I didn't have much confidence in Ankergren. I thought he would come good, but his lack of confidence after Rochdale seemed to transmit to the fans.

Now it is a different story. I think it is now generally accepted by the fans, management and players that he doesn't like coming for crosses, and when you look past that he is an excellent keeper. His communication with the defence is excellent and I think his all round game is good. I'm much more confident in him than I was. His distribution is also good.

I agree on the whole he's looking a far better keeper than when he first arrived.
Both he & Gus have admitted he was unfit & not up to match pace when he arrived having spent pre-season in limbo.
As much as i like Brez untill Ank gets injured, suffers a loss of form or confidence he's our number one.

i dont it matter too much if thats what the defenders expect. not knowing if he will or wont attack crosses causes more doubt and uncertainity, if he doesnt like it or its a known weakness, decide on the training ground and work around it.

I know a lot of it is down to the defence, which the goalkeeper is a very important part of. Im guessing when I say this, but for minutes played. I would be very surprised if Casper on paper, wasn't the safest Albion keeper ever, at this moment in time.

Can never understand the Kuipers lovers. Yes he was loyal, yes he was a great shot stopper. His kicking and distribution was shocking and his comand of his area was crap. Overall he was a very average keeper at this level. Roberts was the best keeper we have had at withdean, untill maybe now.Coppell, McGhee and now Poyet(probbley are three best managers, after Micky first time) can't all be wrong, can they?

Brez is class at coming for crosses and catching them yes. Maybe Casper is slightly better at a number of other things...?

They're both good keepers and offer something different. Brez will get his chance - let's be grateful we've got 2 good keepers (and 4 brilliant CBs too)

Please tell me who this bloke looks like. There was another keeper who looked just like him who was possibly Dutch and played for one of the top teams. It's driving me mad.

Spot on, If he is crap coming off his line he should stay there, However if he doesnt come off his line he really should be replaced...
