I keep on saying it and will do until we get 1, we need a new keeper kasper is no good at this level with the attacking power teams have they have great skill at getting it into the corners of goals and have more powerful shots and the fact he dont dive thats why they go in none stop, in the summer i said we need someone to challenge him and i will say 80% of people on here said no we dont, im glad people finaly see we need a new number 1 even let all 3 go and get 2 new goalkeepers none are good at this level

i do hope this is a wind up thread.

the opening post needs to bore right off.

Ankergren was not to blame for goals one, two or KING Glenn's.

Gus OUT!!

Good to know that a "shit" keeper and back four had conceded (until last night) fewer goals that Southampton (leaders), Leeds Utd (pre season favourites), IpswichTown, Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest - all of whom were/are expecting to be challenging for promotion this season.

The problem is all about the confidence the defence has in the goalie. He should be playing almost as a sweeper, the trouble is the defence don’t trust him when the pressure is on and that means they sit deeper and deeper. He does not organise the defence and tell them where to be and who to watch during the game etc.

His job isn’t that hard, he can see the whole game in front of him so should be a 5th defender, instead he won’t come outside the 6yd box and that means to avoid the massive gap between him and the defence they come back to make the gap smaller.

The last two games we've defended really poorly. I can't see how any of those goals are his fault let alone howlers.
If people need dropping it's Dicker who's been poor this season at home.

errrr I think you will find the problem is Bridcutt disappearing from games...........

Dickers's fine but he is a holding midfielder (like Tony Grealsih) who should be playing just in front of the defence. Not his job to be the heartbeat of the side. bridcutt on thoeother hand shoudl be the heart beat. bridcutt should be doing what bennett did last season , surging through from midfield and supporting the strikers- except for some reason that I don't understand, he doesn't

Bridcutt is a holding midfield player

The heartbeat of the side should almost certainly be Vicente as he is a creative outlet by all accounts - which begs the question that if he is fit enough to play 30 minutes off the bench, why can't he start and then be replaced with a more defensive player in the second half when we are under the cosh?

Ankergren has failed to convince, but I can't see how you can possibly blame him for any of those goals tonight. The first was Dunk's fault for letting him get the shot away, which having been allowed to do so, he slotted it right in the corner. The second was a 100% fluke, a massive miskick which would have thrown any keeper. He did well to very nearly readjust and almost got it. The third was a decent strike in the corner - once again the defender has got to stop him turning and getting the shot away.

Shambles all round, but on this occasion not Ankergren's mistakes.

Disagree. First goal he was simply wrong footed - no complaints. Second, he did not re-adjust quick enough and having got both hands on it, should have had enough to get it away. Third goal, his dive is flat and he does not take off.

His handling is average, but to be fair keepers are encouraged to push and punch rather than catch. Doesn't command his box. He is not agile (see second goal). His dives are flat, does not take off (see third goal), his decision making is poor (see Leeds), he is a nightmare with his angles (see Liverpool first, Murray's first half chance last evening - how much of the goal did he have to aim at?!)

Despite the above (apologies if it sounds like a rant), he is ok as a keeper, but I think we need something better than ok at this level.

Good point, generally his distribution is relatively sound.

Ankergren may not have been at fault for the goals (although the second could have been saved by a more determined keeper) but his performances have been shocking. Two clearances off the line in the last two games have both been because of his mistakes, he didn't even dive for the two shots which beat him.

Even if he's the best keeper at the club (and I'm sorry but I have no confidence in him any more) he still needs to be dropped as a lesson, or to give Brez a chance - he was never dropped after all, just lost his place through injury.

But that can't be helped even Shilts and Pat Jennings have been wrong footed.

He is just not agile enough.

Question is, is distribution and his ability to aid our style more important than basic goalkeeping skills?

I'd rather have a goalkeeper who launches the ball 80 yards up the pitch or shanks it out of play than one whose questionable form at the minute isn't helping with this defensive rocky patch we seem to be in

Even if it's just for one game, give Brezovan a go. Ankergren looks untouchable at the minute as he did when he was straight back in the side at the end of last season despite Brezovan playing very well against Huddersfield. He needs that kick up the arse

Unfortunately, can't see it happening
