His goal kicks are awful, they always head wide and often go out for a throw

Rarely... You seem to remember everything which is bad about him- ie 2 errors and occasinally wayward goal kicks. Do you dislike Noone because his error led to Dagneham's 2nd or El-Abd because his led to their third. Bit of perspective please .

The guy seems to have been integral to our style of play and therefore our success this season. A key role in an outstanding season, POS probably not - but this year I don't think it's right to single anyone out - it has been a fantastic team effort and every regular squad member has played a crucial role. POS - all of 'em!!!

why don't you just admit you don't rate ankergren, where the majority do??? all keepers make errors, but he has certainly made up for them...good keeper deserves some credit.

I think that he will still be No 1 next season but I hope that we will bring in an equally profficient keeper to offer competition for the jersey and either one be an able deputy with possibly Brezovan as their back up. So possbly goodbye to Mitch Walker.

I don't rate Ankergren, I don't think he is commanding enough in his box and i think Brezovan would have done a better job over the course of the season.

I think Greame Smith could have looked good in our side this season

I thought your opinion was going over the top regarding Ankergren but that last statement makes you lose all credibility. Total and utter nonsense.

Although fans eventually understood why passing it around the back was better than lumping it up the field, it seems some are still blind to the changes Poyet has made in the goalkeeping department.

I think he's been phenomenal to pull off the odd save in the last few matches when for the most the season he has bugger all to do in that department.

The criticism of Ankergren goal kicks is laughable, he hardly ever takes one.

It's his last resort and when he tries often tries to drop it on the feet of an individual player on the wing. He doesn't always come off, but it wouldn't would it ?

Far better to blindly lump it up the middle of the field for an opposing defender to head straight back. As every other goalkeeper in the league appears to do.

As least it stays on the pitch.... :lolol:

Seems like some people still can't get over the Kuipers vs whoever binfest years

If you think Ankergren is no better than Smith you need your head checked, but I would agree that most half decent keepers would not concede goals in this team. Brezovan, Kuipers, Flinders, Henderson etc.

Of course then we might not have had the option of using them as an outlet, Ankergren's comfort on the ball has been useful.
Not sure if it makes him player of the season material though.

I'm also not totally sure how well he'll do in the Championship when we'll be coming under a lot more serious pressure every week. But we'll see, because I think Gus probably regards him as his number one for next year.

He's done everything asked of him and is a great L1 keeper. At Championship he wouldn't be bad but would in my opinion be below average and extremely weak at crosses but knows the system and able to play in it. If I could only sign 3 players a keeper would be 2nd choice after one more striker but that is completely different to saying he's crap. Defence have been immense and midfield incredible. That's meant very good as opposed to excellent keeper and strikers have done great....... but can still be the 8s in a team of 9 and 10s at L1 level. Maybe they'll be the 6s surrounded by 7s and 8s in the Champ

What about walsalls goal on saturday, pathetic, and loads of attacks in the 2nd half in the space of a few minutes and he was routed to his line, overall a good keeper and he`s played his part in our success but certainly not player of the season for me and his lack of confidence and command of his area when there`s a cross or corner is worrying for next season.

Look at the highlights of the game, jezzer. Bridcutt tried to clear the corner and it sliced off his boot up in the air, coming down just a couple of feet in front of the goal. Ankergren was boxed in by Walsall and our own players, so could do nothing about it.

20 clean sheets in a season doesn't lie.

I get the feeling it's the back four that have made him look better than he really is, it's thanks to them that he hasn't really been tested this season. I don't think he's a strong enough presence in the box, doesn't come for crosses, punches when he should catch. Typical example saturday, yes poor clearance by Bridcutt but the goal keeper should have been first to that ball. It was right in his area and he didn't come for it.

Honestly reading what some of you lot are saying is unbelievable. Ankregan is a fantastic keeper.

Why is it that everyone remembers the one wayward goal kick and one punched cross he makes in a game rather than the other 89 minutes of play where he is a total rock?

Quite. A few people round me (and I'm sure we all experience this) hilariously shout "punch it" whenever Ankergran handles any aerial ball which he doesn't punch - that is the vast majority of them. The fact is the goalkeeper's punch is a percentage game. We used to never see it done by British keepers, but then they would have more frequently dropped a tricky ball in the six yard box rather than given the defence better chance by clearing it out of the area with a punch. It doesn't always work but then neither did Bridcutt's attempted clearance on Sunday or a couple of El Abd's attempts on Tuesday and so it goes on (although no doubt all of these errors are being blamed on Elphick).

Thats rubbish, the ball was in the air for ages before it came down, ankergren should come out for those, goal wasnt all his fault, bad defending aswell but hes too static too often, he can catch the ball and use his hands, no-one else can, this fact has passed him by on too many occasions to be a real top class goalie, needs to be much more aggressive in making that ball his at every opportunity, especially as the chances of the ref blowing up for a foul by the goalie when bulldozing their way through all arms and elbows is virtually nil.

The Championship.
He is easily the best keeper in the division and it is a surprise he didn't get into the L1 team of the year as he has been player of the month twice this season and I can't recall Davies being it once?
