I had a perfect HD stream, but sadly with Townsend spewing his mongrel commentary. I lasted a few minutes before I ended up watching the game on MUTE (as unfortunately the radio commentary doesn't synch).

His offensively inane drivel had me in the red zone within 5 minutes, when he talked about "United ideally needing an early goal so they can go on and build on it from there". The warty slack-jawed COCKSPANGLE just could not hide his desire for Man U to give us a good shoeing.

I hope someone kicks him in the face soon.

The football knowledge of Paul Merson and the enthusiasm and insight of Michael Owen all rolled into one ****ing abhorrent package. I genuinely hope he gets mildly inconvenienced on a frequent basis for the foreseeable future.

If I could give a golden thumbs up for "warty slack-jawed COCKSPANGLE" I would but you will have to settle for a bow that that you cannot see:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'm still furious about the whole night though. I just KNEW I'd end up thoroughly pissed off.

How to solve the problem, which I did at half time because I could stand him no more.
Hook up a Sky box to a sound bar. Play the commentry on that (5Live Extra) but pause it till it matches up with the TV picture.

In the first half every time a United player completed a pass of more then 10 yards to feet (which wasn't that often) Townsend waxed lyrical about how world class it was - when Brighton passed the ball around with long and short passes with incredible skill it was met with total silence!!

I tend to tune out Townsend but I was annoyed with Jim Proudfoot as the commentator. Given he used to commentate on the Albion when he was starting out I was amazed how one sided his commentary was.

As this is the global feed from the Premier League, it makes you wonder if there is a directive to focus on the big name club to keep that audience engaged.

Absolutely there is.

It's the same as with Tyldesley, and his vomit inducing sycophancy that he used to trot out on ITV.

The channel has a huge commercial imperative to keep viewers coming back and to do this, tell people the soothing bollocks that they want to hear. It's more complex than just sycophancy though. They veer between blaming the unpopular individuals such as Fred and over praising the popular ones.

It's still shocking to us as it wasn't what we had when we grew up. The immutable old school sense of fairness of Motson, Davies, and Moore and before them Coleman and Wolstenholme would never allowed it. This is our future if the tories commercialise the BBC by the way
