Well done Murray a true pro lets hope he wins Wimbledon again. Lets give the lad a chance.
I don't care for egg chasing much and he's not BritishIn sporting achievements it should have been Murray, Farah, Rose, Froome...imo.
No, Ben Ainsley shouldve been in there, he single handedly won the Americas cup... But they didn't explain that very well...

I didn't vote, but I think either AP McCoy or Mo Farah would be more deserving.
I am not in to racing, but what AP McCoy has done is mind-blowing.
And when did we last have an athlete holding both 5,000 and 10,000 Olympic titles and 5,000 and 10,000 World Titles at the same time.
And I am not in to tennis and I don't like Andy Murray anyway.

What an embarrassment if he hadn't won somehow
Anyway, what a deserved winner. Phenomenal player and the standout candidate obviously.
I've never understood this TOSH about his personality. I literally wouldn't care if he was MUTE. He is a winner and thats what the reward is for. He never chose to be on camera. He chose to be a brilliant tennis player and is then thrusted into it.
In actual fact that he never slagged off the english as some morons think, and he actually has a very dry sense of humour and genuinely shows how upset he is at losing. Also the fact that he has done some excellent events such as joke tennis matches in aid of his best mate who was recently diagnosed with cancer. He's also been in quite a few funny cameo appearances and did a really good interview last year in which he breaks down on camera about the whole Dunblaine attrocity.
But still, don't let that ruin the myth that he has "no personality".

AP McCoy, Chris Froome & Ben Ainslie depend on their 'equipment' as such for their success whereas Mo Farrah & Andy Murray are just superb sportsmen and athletes. People talk about footballers needing a rest after a couple of 90+ games a week whereas Murray can sometimes play for up to 5 hours in a match.

I realise it's a really hard topic to conclude...but I've always had tennis players down as the most complete sports people.
Again, im probably wording it badly but I can't think of many sports where it ticks all the boxes.
1 - An individual sport
2 - One on One.
3 - Requires pace
4 - Constant decision making
5 - Strength
6 - Techniquie
7 - Agility
8 - Stamina
You get my point. I'm sure someone else will blow me out of the water with a better example though.

Murray is a legend and I think he is a great personality as well as most importantly being a winner. The most deserving winner of that award since..... Bradley Wiggins, this is a great time for British sport.
Mo should have come second but he was battling against the whole of Wales and Ireland I suppose.

Excellent post - I agree totally, I think Andy Murray always come over really well in interviews whether having won or lost and he does have quite an engaging personality. But at the end of the day that is irrelevant, the BBC should change the event to "Sports Person Of The Year". Let's face it no one ever has a go at Stephen Fry for being a sh#t tennis player!
Saw it in a press conference with him, said something along the lines of, 'I'm not going to say who I want to win the ashes, but I will say it's not England....'

For at least 2 weeks every year it seems the whole of Great Britain focuses on Andy Murray, is it any wonder that after all the years of "will he, won't he ? " it's bound to give him a huge bounce in the figures, Add to that the sexist element where lots of women would vote for Murray as they have not heard of 2/3rds of the shortlist. No surprise really especially given the paucity of the opposition.
