Oh please. Wiggins is miles ahead of Murray. Ben Ainsley is still active isn't he? Turned around the US team in the America's Cup 2 years ago from 8-1 down (or so) to win 9-8. He's brilliant. And Rory McIlroy is better than Murray too.

Murray is the best tennis player we've had for many decades, but that's not the question. Just because others haven't been successful at his sport, doesn't mean he's better than those who play another sport.

Murray has been in the top 3/4 players in the world for many a year now.

Which is lovely, but he's never been number 1. How can a guy that's never been number 1 be considered the best sportsman of his generation? He can't. I'm not knocking him, I generally like him (although wasn't impressed with his 'vote yes' politics), but there are others who have achieved more. Wiggins (a close 2nd according to you) has won several olympic gold medals, was the first British winner of the TDF ever, he's broken world records, including the hour record this year.

All these people knocking Andy Murray make me laugh.

What he has achieved in sport, is nothing short of INCREDIBLE. Alright, he may not have reached the Number One ranking, but he's been in the top 20 since 2006 and the top 10 since 2008. He's spent 21 weeks at No 2 and 69 weeks at no 3.

He's currently the THIRD BEST TENNIS PLAYER IN THE WORLD, behind two absolute tennis FREAKS.

That makes him a pretty special sportsman.
