It is incredible. I don't think some people read post #2 beyond the link. Equally, let's not have a pile on continue please folks. Time out.

I've been genuinely touched by the reaction to this. Thank you to each and every one of you who donated. The reaction means that we can sort out the restaurant as well and make a meaningful donation to charity that might, who knows, prevent someone else going out at night carrying a knife.

This really is the best club in the world. OK, I'm biased. But once a community club, always a community club, to paraphrase.

As an update, gofundme process receipts on an 'overnight batch' which seems to also split money out. Andy has some in his account with the remainder due the next time they process a run. Totals are being shared with me, Bozza and Jack. We'll now look into the logistics of contacting the restaurant and choosing a charity (yes, @Hamilton I saw your suggestion and will pass on to Boz).

That always amused me. I'm autistic but with a modicum of insight. So I always feel that I ought to explain in detail how my day has been but know they don't expect me to say anything other than 'fine'. And yet.....a previous GF who is 'neurodiverse' but differently from me, would expect me to give full details if she were to ask me about my day, and would go into a massive strop if I said 'fine'.

As Viv Stanshall said at the end of 'My pink half of the drainpipe', sometimes you just can't win.

Bringing this back on track. I was too late to donate because of everyone else’s speedy generosity and am actually quite disappointed that I didn’t. It’s made me realise that in general football fans are a good lot, looking after each other when the chips are down and trusting each other to do the right thing. When we all pull together we can change people’s lives and make things happen.

I’ve no doubt the victims of this unpleasant episode have been more hurt and upset than we realise or they are admitting, but hopefully the gestures from fellow fans will help ease their pain, reward the restaurant for helping and help a charity do it’s good work.

We'll publish details of the charity as I also had a PM from someone who wanted to donate directly. Again, 100% no obligation but I'm sure they wouldn't turn down the price of a pint.

That leads to really shoddy travel insurance companies being set up because they offer "travel insurance" which is very cheap and people just buy it because it's the cheapest.

It was a legal requirement in Ghana for a while for travel and their travel insurance companies are awful because of it.

I'd like to think it would be run better than Ghana... hopefully!!!

But maybe that is wishful thinking.

To those who say why didn’t I have insurance - they are absolutely right but ya know it was last minute and it slipped my mind (the one time I actually needed it.) Go fund me was insisted upon me and I feel a bit embarrassed to accept it The bare essentials will go towards replacing mine and jacks stuff and the rest will go to a charity of the NSC choosing and some form of reward to the restaurant that were there to treat us.

Lastly to the comments about wanting money back are odd based on the no insurance as it was never withheld.

That being said there is the charity excess so it would be possible, you should be able to find me at my Brazillian Jiu Jitzu gym when I am back up and running and I can sort it out for you.

I may have paraphrased the conversation using ambiguous badly-remembered dialogue, but there was no confusion about the narrative at the time. Substitute what I wrote for 'Please may I use your bucket and some water' if it will help you sleep better later this evening

Maybe then I had a small debt to the English, as a boy I lived in London, a fantastic city that always welcomed me with open arms.

There’s a half and half scarf somewhere although it might not do us any favours to send it. Someone must have a clean one that they bought on impulse and no longer want.
