From the Article:

Egyptian protesters reportedly hurled firebombs at police protecting the embassy and overturned a police van.

Egypt's Interior Ministry said 35 people were injured.

The clashes stem from Egypt's defeat by Algeria in a World Cup qualifying match on Wednesday, securing Algeria the last African place for next year's finals.

On Friday Alaa Mubarak, the son of Egypt's president Hosni Mubarak, made a rare public statement calling for a "tough stance" to be taken against Algeria.

"When you insult my dignity... I will beat you on the head," the businessman, who had attended the game in Khartoum, said.

=================================

That bit in bold is UNBELIEVABLE. I was reading the first sentence fully expecting it to end with..."tough stance" to be taken against the violent Egyptian protesters.

Insanity.

We got caught in mega traffic jams in Qatar as the Egyptian living and working there spilled out into the streets to celebrate there winner over Algeria to take the group into this qualifier.

There were road blocks, buses full of police and it was total chaos as it took us about an hour to do 4k and when you have a plane waiting not very funny!

Amazing that FIFA with their very impressive recent record for acting to improve the image of soccer worldwide hasn't just given the Egyptian and Algerian FAs a joint World Cup 2018 slot.

If that was in the UK the offending home nation would have been thrown out of the next FIFA/UEFA tournament.
