Am I the only person thinking that at 10 years maybe this charity has now run it's course?

I think as long as decent money is still being made for charity it's ok, £6000 i think has been raised this year which is a good effort

Fair comment but there seems to be a hell of a lot of very public bickering and divisions which are not so good.

Todays events have brought with them an element of 'closure', and with Gareth stepping down ...

As this has always been an NSC-led charity, perhaps there should be an official poll?

I think this is something REMF needs to ask itself. My main gripe is that nowadays a number of well intended REMF threads decend quickly into very public spats. There's been a few examples over the past couple of days. At best it doesn't read well and at worst it puts people off donating money. I really do not want to belittle any of the charity's achievements but equally I do wonder if it is currently operating at it's best potential.

Ha, nobody needed to LET him win, all on merit. Although Basil Fawlty was lending him his decent cue, we should have made him use the crap pub one with no tip

Whatever happens to me is irrelevant. I am a cog in a wheel but I would say that the REMF will close down when the Eatons decide it will close down and not before then and not decided by anyone else but them. I am still going to be very much involved in continuing to help and make the REMF a success in the future along with lots of other people but thought it was only fair to give someone else a chance at the helm. Something I thought long and hard about and did not want to do but it is my decision. A few petty squabbles on an internet forum does not undo the close to £ 100000 raised since 2001 or close to 1000 kids from across the World helped by the REMF imo so that upsets me that some people would be happy for the REMF to close. I personally do not think it has run its course, not by a long shot but if it has the Eatons will decide when that moment is. Until then I hope people continue to help and support the fund.

I think REMF is very much Gareth's charity. He's done a tremendous job so far and I think he should continue.

He's said he'll continue to act as treasurer, and carry on organising the REMF football matches so even if he is not officially called REMF chairman he'll still have a massive influence which is good for the charity.

PS I enjoyed the pool night.

The latest match looks like it will have made upwards of £6,000.

That is money which goes to kids who need it.

If the day comes when the REMF if making NOTHING then it might be an idea to wind it up. Hopefully that day is a long way off.

And, as has been said, that will be a decision for the Eatons - not a poll on NSC.

and walt 'does a lot of work for charidee but don't like to talk about it' japseye

Think that is a bit harsh. I don't think I have actually mentioned ANYTHING I do for charity apart from a vague 'helping out the REMF'...

I can't remember being particularly catty to you, but if I have, I appologise.

I did start this thread as a genuine 'what a nice event' thread and have tried numerous times to get it back onto topic despite Beach Hut's nit-pickery and bitchery.
