Michel only appeared for the last 5 minutes (max) and I am pretty sure that is the first time this season. He was practising his kicking, unless my memory is being eroded by copious amounts of wine...?

he was definently out at cardiff

I have only been to the home games.

I am not quite sure how 5 minutes kicking will turn him into a...dare I say it.... Henderson type kicker. Still, at least he is showing willingness to improve. Whether he will or not is another matter. It certainly doesn't help our play when he slices it towards Forster, when he is the guy that is meant to pick up the knock ons.

How many times, last season, I sat in the family stand and watched Henderson in goal nearest that, skew the ball from a goal kick towards the dugouts. Must have been dozens.

im not sure the period before the restart is meant to do that - obviously, to sort his kicking out would take a sustained period of work on the training ground

i would view it as more of a 'warm up' ahead of the game - i find it takes a few kicks to get the motion going for it, so by taking him out and letting him get all the bad ones out of his system when nothing is riding on it by allowing him to prepare can only be a good thing. of course, whether it is working or not is a completely different matter!

been out early in all the home games

That goes to show how much attention I have been paying this season.

There were bound to be a few that went straight out. More often than not, his instructions were to kick it to the guy on the byline.

Right on. I was only being a bit mischievous. He is not that bad, I have seen worse, but it can be frustrating when you want the ball to head towards Savage, Revell or whoever is in position for it and it skews towards Forster. Maybe we should try and mix it up a bit and play it short. We must be able to free up one of the fullbacks now and then.

totally agree with that - whenever people bleat on about hendersons distribution not being up to scratch, they ALWAYS mention that a few kicks would go out

i always felt that by distribution, it was more to do with getting out wide to the full backs quickly, or throwing it accurately up pitch - something he did far more often than launching it forward. that is the complete opposite to kuipers, who hardly ever seems to use his arms to distribute

The first goal wasn't offside, and Kuipers was NOT to blame for either.
I was at that end, and thought Richards was further away from the play, but he had been watching the guy out wide of him. The ball shouldn't have made it to their player, especially when he was surrounded by ours. They were playing 'square' and left a gap that begged trouble.

For the second, Yeovil musta had the good sense to pre-arrange (in TRAINING, FFS!!) for a player to be coming into the central edge of the area, like ANY DECENT TEAM does as a matter of course. Thus Owusu chipped to that area without having to even look first. For the pass, Owusu was out of frame when the ball was hit forwards, and our defender was perhaps just meandering forward to make him offside - and hadn't got that done in time.

Obviously Yeovil DO train. ???

Offside or not - both goals had the air of inevitability about them. We were absolutely woeful in the 1st half. but....we definitely bossed the 2nd half and I think were unlucky not to get a point from it.

Still...it's done now and all forgotten. :jester:

Nail. Head. We need to be putting the opposition under constant pressure and batter them into submission. Certainly in the early stages and get our noses in front. That means recycling the ball early and putting them on the back foot. It is our possession and more often than not, in giving them time to regroup, we turn it over due to a slow response. Not always the case, but for the majority of it.

actually, thinking about it, everyone also used to BLEAT on about whing looking good with his distribution during his loan spell last season

dont think its a coincidence that his distribution has looked far worse this season as he doenst have henderson rolling the ball into his feet at least three times a game, from which we were usually able to launch an attack

That is very true. His loan spell coincided with a very good run of form. The one time he did get the ball to his feet on Saturday, he charged up the pitch and took a shot from outside the area. Another thing we need to work on, as opposed to trying to walk it into the net. Alright, it didn't hit the target, but it was progress. It also takes the onus off whoever is on the right and mixes it up a bit.

Back to the original thread.................!!

I am getting sick of excuses/blame culture from the Manager. No decent manager constantly blames their players in public

The buck stops at D W who has made decent signings and should get more aggressive play at home

Withdean - with DW in charge- must be one of the opposition goalies favourite away trips for all the work out they get

From the snippet on BBC sport news It looks like the fact that we didn't even compete until we went a goal down is not the problem and it seems that gets swept under the carpet because of a "spirited 2nd half performance"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/brighton/7009097.stm

Did DW actually have a go about our lacklustre and inept start in the full interview??

Basil Fawlty

Don't Mention The War
The first goal was clearly not offside, The second wasn't either. Because it hit our player, rebounding back to their player so making it not offside. FDM had absolutely no chance for the second, it wasn't the most powerful strike I've seen but it was hit cleanly enough and it was place quite beautifully in the bottom right corner. Wilkins does need to stop these excuses and put some of the blame down on his feet for once.
