China is the biggest country in the world, and has the most resources.

They also have a very different set of attitudes to us, in terms of training, etc.

If you are cherry picked to be a swimmer, at the age of five, and sent to a training camp to work at your swimming 8 hours a day for the next ten years, with the best facilities around you, and no distractions (like school, freinds, family life, etc), chances are you'll get quite good.

Then consider that even then, there will be 200 of these hand picked swimmers in each age group, and only the best handful will be the ones we will see on the world stage.

This is all well and good, but do you think it explains this girl suddenly, out of nowhere, swimming five seconds faster than she's ever done before, beating the world record by a second in the process and swimming a faster last 50 than the fastest male swimmer in the world?

Athlete does well = They're on drugs. Must be.

The comparison to Lochte's time has absolutely no relevance to her race. It is being used solely as areason to "prove" thr cheeky scamp was up to no good and it's cometely wrong. But you can convince yourself of anything if you try. Look at any of the other conspiracy threads on this forum, they're full of people genuinely believing absolute nonsense because they can find some tenuous "proof" which backs up their ideas.

When you say 'out of nowhere', you mean 'reigning WORLD CHAMPION' presumably?

I'd like to see blood samples kept on file. That way should our anti doping technologies find a way of tracing something that is currently not traceable, we can revoke any honours in the future - should a cheat be proven so.

Samples are kept for 8 years after the games.

BOA is satisfied that she passed her dope test.... makes the American coach look a bit silly... personally, I believe they all take something or other...some of the westerners seem a bit more clever about it, thats all.

World champion in a different event, but I take your point. All the same, going FIVE SECONDS quicker than your previous best has got to raise some questions, surely?

Five seconds better than her previous COMPETITION best, which was a while ago.

We have no idea whatsoever what improvements she has made in training, behind closed doors.

Why are those questionning the 16 year old Chinese swimmers, NOT questionning the 15 year British based Lithuanian who beat the Chinese to win Gold in her event?

Nicely summed up by General Melchett in Black Adder goes forth I think:

Captain Darling: So you see, Blackadder, Field Marshall Haig is most anxious to eliminate all these German spies.
General Melchett: Filthy hun weasels, fighting their dirty underhand war!
Captain Darling: And fortunately, one of our spies...
General Melchett: Splendid fellows, brave heroes risking life and limb for Blighty!

If she'd been cheating there's no way she'd have been able to fit her cock into the sample bottle.

The simple facts are that she could and she did, so end of story.

Clean as a whistle.

While you jest, that's not a bad philosophy.

Of course it does. The fact is a lot of people have been found to take drugs to improve their performances, and a lot have also been guilty without failing a test, and some cheating is still not detected by the current tests. So it is a fact that people still cheat, and a fact that some of those will not fail a drugs test. There's no debate about that, that's a fact. So when any athlete does ridiculously well, of course there are going to be questions about whether they've cheated or not.

The fault in this lies with the Olympic committee that don't test as well as they could.

If she had been taking growth hormones, they dont show up right away in testing. It can take at least 36 days for them to be detected in the sample. Also depending on and if she took them, they might not show up at all if she stopped taking them a while back.

But lets remember the Chinese have previous for cheating in the pool back at the world championships in the 90's and like they say mud sticks.

Was she also faster than the men's gold medalist in the same event?

I find it sad that athletes can't just be amazing anymore, they can't beat records all over the place and they can't excel at their sport because if they do, they're labeled a cheat. Even if they don't fail any of the tests, people just think they're a clever cheat. Maybe I am being naive, but I think it's sad. Especially in this case. The main "evidence" of her cheating is that she swam quicker than Lochte, but I still don't see that as being a relevant comparison. Why shouldn't she swim faster than a man?
