And then there are the diving foreigners like Ashley Young and Welbeck.

Damn right. The way that Zaha cheats his way into winning penalties, I think our Palace chums might just be right in saying he will end up there. How many has it been this season alone?

Manchester United get a lot of PKs at Old Trafford, so it must be the referees and their obvious bias towards United. Of course, it's got nothing to do with the fact they tend to batter 95% of teams that go there and win most home games by two or three goals, with dozens of shots on goal and a huge majority of all the attacking play. The fact the ball is in their opponents' half for so long in comparison to how much defending they do is obviously another freak occurrence. Yes, it's much more likely that every referee in the country is corrupt.

Have you actually watched them play this season?

The idea that they're so far above every other team in the Premier League right now is hilarious and even with all the help they get I'd be very surprised to see them end this season with a trophy. Perhaps the league cup or maybe the FA, but they're not good enough for a title.

Why do you feel the need to defend them? Football fans have every right to hate them for their greed, their arrogance, their moronic fans, their pathetic moaning old manager and the fact that they regularly get favourable treatment from the authorities and media. Furthermore, on a personal note, may I remind you that Manchester United are the only team to have beaten our beloved club in an FA Cup final, which for me is just another reason to dislike them.

I can only assume you're defending them for the sake of being controversial. Did you read the article? I find Manchester United sympathisers unbelievably dull, particularly on a forum for a lower league team such as Brighton, who have gone through so much more heartbreak, agony and passion in the last fifteen years than the big red moneymaking machine.

Anyway, regarding the blog post, there's some quite startling evidence in there and to be honest it doesn't surprise me in the slightest

Very interesting article, especially the last few paragraphs:

Or maybe not… Chris Foy failed to give Manchester United a penalty in their 3-2 loss to Spurs last Saturday. The PGMOB have not handed Foy a Premier League game to referee next weekend: instead, he will referee in League 2 for the first time in more than 4 years.

I'd still like to know why we were given a referee from the West Midlands in a game again Birmingham. Totally disgraceful.

My view is that referees in this country are not corrupt or biased.

However, they all want to referee at the 'big' matches, and at the back of their mind is the view that OT is the biggest club stadium in the country, and therefore officiating there brings a bit of extra kudos.

They are also conscious of avoiding the wrath of SAF, so if there is a 50/50 penalty decision, subconsciously they are more likely to give it to United than the opposition. It doesn't make them bad people, or SAF either, it's just life.

This is the more sensible comment.

SAF has the power to almost pick who referees his games just by his media comments after a game.

I'm not quite sure where this idea came from that United are the ONLY club in history that gets home decisions comes from.

They do, and have done for years. But the anger should be directed at the refs, who knows why they get influenced but presumably it's some combination of big crowd screaming for decisions, and getting intimidated by well-known players and manager.

But it certainy happened for Liverpool for years (how many times, Liverpool 1-0 Rush (pen)). And anyone who thinks that Chelsea and now City aren't benefiting from the same thing is deluding themselves.

And in any case, that's what a home crowd is suposed to do, win it's team decisions. I wish we did more, certainly hasn't in the last two games.

Agreed. I love the band wagon "Refs favour United, always award them penalties at OT" ummmm, what team is never favoured decisions/penalties at home?

They are the most successful club in English history and the Premier League or English football for that matter wouldn't be the same without them or Sir Alex.

An interesting read for those that have actually read it and the bloggers previous article.

The article was nothing to do about home advantage

It's obviously primarily about home refereeing. That is where the vast majority of these problems occur (which I'm not defending BTW, just stating a fact). Sounds like a bitter rant from a Liverpool fan to me. Still, where would we be without the daily anti-Man Utd rant from a load of fans who will be creaming themselves if they ever get to go there in the league...

Well I read it but I was left wondering how many times a premier league referee has a particular team per season. I think there are 19 referee's for the PL, so if each team has 38 games, on average they could have each referee just twice during a season. Of course it is likely that they might not have one referee at all, and another 3 or 4 times. The article doesn't really reveal whether the time between referee's officiating a MU game is inconsistent with referee's doing other teams?
