ST holder in the Upper East and lucky enough to have a car parking space at Sussex University so drive to most games. Each and every game I join the queue on the slip road off the A27 coming out of Brighton and then watch as car after car slows down in the left-hand lane on the A27 trying to push in as far up the queue as possible, invariably, making the non-match traffic come to a dangerous halt behind them. On Thursday evening, I had to cover my eyes as a massive articulated lorry, had to swerve suddenly to avoid some knob in an Audi Q3 who had just stopped on the A27 and tried to push in. Strangely, it always seems to be people in really expensive SUVs who tend to do it.

But anyway, sooner or later there's going to be a massive pile-up so if you are one of the people that does it, maybeleave a bit earlier, find alternative means of transport or just stop being a selfish tosspot.

Not SUVs, BMW and Audi drivers. 🙂

unfortunatley its not just on match days, it happens all the time, well signposted lane closuresshouldnt cause too much hassle UNLESS knobheads inssist on staying in the lane being closed untill the last second, driving past all those who have merged into the open lanes. and then cutting in, forcing others to brake sharply

If someone does that and tries to then merge in front of me , I simply dont give them space to do so, and hope everyone behind does the same

Yep, I’ve seen it too when passing the slip road in the outside lane on the A27 on the way to parking in Lewes. I agree it is an accident waiting to happen.

I'm talking about something slightly different to you, but I'm pretty sure the most efficient way of getting traffic through a lane closure is to use all lanes for as long as possible, and then to "zip in" at the end.
Occasionally the roadworks will have signs instructing this, but people still tend to squeeze into the open lane as early as possible because it feels weird.
To be clear, unless the signs do specifically instruct otherwise, I am very much one of those people who just join the queue.

That is correct. The matchday thing is different though as there is not a merge instruction, it just involves selfish people thinking that they are better than all the others waiting and who push in at the last moment.

Yes I know, I was responding to the point about lane closures. If they were well signposted, everybody would use all the lanes and nobody would push in at the end. But they hardly ever put those signs out.
People pushing in at that junction are clearly just dangerous, selfish twats.

You also see people in the queue who decide to change their minds and just pull out into traffic which isn’t expecting them

Last couple of home games I’ve seen the away team coach do exactly this trying to push in at last min
Why don’t they get a police escort last part of journey ?

I’ve seen Tony Bloom do it in a convertible Porsche, a few years ago, on the exit to the stadium from Brighton, not as dangerously as the ones who think they are too good to queue and just try and cut in the from the outside lane of a dual carriageway, he went up the inside lane and then cut in at the roundabout in front of all those queuing in the right hand lane as all sensible and responsible people do.

Not forgetting the Albion supporters coaches. The driver normally gets big cheer for jumping the queue and then scooting up the left hand lane before turning over the A27.

Right, that's done it for me. I'm starting a campaign to get him out and inviting offers for the club.

Here we go again then.
Firstly this junction is the same every day around 5 pm 'till 6:30 pm. Difference being there are many cars coming out of the A270 Lewes Road and right onto the A27. You pick up speed only for the car in front to suddenly brake last minute.
How to solve it match days, simple. Off slip road make the left lane a bus lane, shove in cameras to stop cars.

How do I get into the University to park then, given my space is right at the top of the campus?

I thought you can only access the uni via the Stanmer Park entrance. There is no entrance via the 'Swan Inn' end.
Next complaint from me. Cars leaving post match from the Uni at the top end. As you leave, the right lane is straight ahead, left lane for left turns only onto the A27 Lewes bound. Why do cars try and take the left lane and then block the round-a-bout because they want to go straight ahead?

You have to come down Coldean Lane or on the road out of Brighton turn left at the lights if you come down Coldean Lane and then turn left again past Stanmer Park and just keep going. You will have your parking ticket checked in front of the University.
