Amex Tour this evening (with pictures)

This evening I went on a tour of the Amex - something I'd been meaning to do for quite a while! It's just under 2 hours long and for those of you considering it, I highly recommend it. It's great seeing all the stuff behind the scenes, and while it shows you how far we've come as a club since 1997 (or even 2010) it reminds you that we still haven't grown up too much and have plenty of time for the fans.

Here are some of the pictures I took, and as always, it's Flickr law to view them as a slideshow:

Amex tour 13/08/12 - a set on Flickr

Some of the things I learnt whilst there:

- Not even the staff can spell Kuszczak

- The club actually made a special request to the FA to play the first league game at the Amex against Donny. Previously I thought it was just a happy coincidence.

- There are no plans to run more trains, more carriages or extend the platform at Falmer. Apparently there isn't enough power to run any more trains on the Brighton-Lewes line. The club are already paying Southern a lot for the increased matchday train service.

- The seats in the SW section of 1901 should be going in over the next couple of days.

- The SW corner of the stadium (outside) will have large glass panels similar to the middle of the West stand for the entrance to the hospitality which is going above the South stand.

- No imminent transfer news, but that's not to say there won't be any. The guy who we were with seems pretty clued up about everything Albion-related and he only found out that Crofts was returning 15 minutes before he signed the dotted line! It seems there are very few ITK people inside the club let alone outside.

Hope you enjoy the pictures and they might convince some of you to go on a tour!

I was told last week by management that the club are going to clear shrubbery and erect fencing and the rail company are going to upgrade signalling. I don't think power has anything to do with how many carriages a train carries to & from Lewis (sic)

Very very good. Some of the best pictures yet. Interesting that Ipswich fans were there. It intrigues me as to why they were there. I can understand neutrals going to some of the bigger English grounds for tours but hadn't ever considered we may attract them.

Nice pictures.
p.s. what is the picture that looks like a giant golden turd?

The Palace shirt? :jester:

I think you mean a glass model of the Amex that was presented to Tony Bloom last year.

I took a bunch of Burnley fans with me on the tour ... they were well impressed and cited it as one of the finest stadia they have visited.

Great pics, thanks for sharing them.

(Pedants' Corner... It would have surely been the Football League that the club asked about the first game vs Donny, not the FA... the FL do all the fixtures below the Premier. Sorry!!)

Thanks, the tour guide actually said that but my short term memory fails me at times

I went on Sunday with the family and was told by our guide that the club has paid for the lengthening of the platforms to take more carriages and were just waiting for netowrk rail to schedule the works in.
