At the risk of being fixtured, I found this on page 68 of the Argus yesterday:

“[American Express] signed a ten-year £4.5m deal with Albion for the stadium naming rights.”

First time a figure has been mentioned? I haven’t seen this anywhere previously.

If we get into the Premiership in that timeframe then American Express have got a bargain!!

Its pretty exciting, because they obviously know the overall game plan and for a global brand to invest that much in a stadium for a League One team is pretty stupendous. :)

£4.5m for 10 years seems pretty poor if we're aiming for top half Championship and more in a new shiny stadium. £450k a year !!

£4.5m pretty poor? At the end of the day we're still a League One side, and considering it was a done deal before the start of the season before our meteoric rise to the top of the league, I would say it was good business.

bearing in mind our gate recipts are going to be in excess of £400,000 per match I think it's disgusting that we have sold our name for about twenty grand per match, I'd rather pay an extra fuckin quid if they want money that badly

.

£4.5m yes....any League 1 football club should turn that down eh..........get over it, christ.

I saw that in Naylors Q & A thing on Tuesday, nobody picked up on it so I thought it was common knowledge.

My initial impression was that it was a good bit of business for both parties, Amex must be loving our rise up the table as much as we are.

get over it, christ.

As Jarvis Cocker once wrote, 'I am not Jesus but I have the same initials'

anyway back to the topic, I think you want to get over, me 'getting over it'
If people on here don't like my own opinion (which is what this is) on this subject then don't start the fuckin topic then. Almost daily is a new thread about how you pronounce it?, What are you gonna call it? etc etc. As for needing the money, then let's not stop there, Lets paint' 'Fly Aer Lingus' on the fuckin roof -£1million. Make the colour of the seats spell out 'Dream Topping '£500,000. Incorporate 'Pepsi' into the badge £3 million, where does it end. No league 1 side can turn down that sort of money.

Sorry mate, the comment of 'getting over it' was meant a little tongue in cheek, so i was not meant for it to be your wrong i am right holier than thou. Apologies. I do think though that it is still alot of money for us to turn down to be honest and yes, it is a sign of the times. I wished we did not have to do this but it is reality and corporate driven, the £4.5m though is going to the communities projects though which i think is a fantastic idea because it means it is going to somewhere where it can make a real difference

If my maths is correct we'd only have to pay about 35p extra. But perhaps this money was up front?

£4.5 million isnot the sort of sponsorship deal you get in League One so we should be really grateful! We've got a massive company with a massive brand committing to our club for TEN YEARS.

Also, that works out as 5% of the cost of the stadium, not including any further sponsorship deals we get, i.e. shirts.

Fundamentally, we are a League One club and there is no guarantee we will ever be anything more over the next 10 years. Sure, things are looking good but we're not even in the Amex yet.

It was never a deal about money. It was about global branding. NONE of the sponsor money goes towards the stadium, it all goes into the clubs community projects, which is why Amex wanted to do it.
