The bed wetting here and at large seems ridiculous. Feels like so many have been turned into utter flannels by the media.

It's not OUR supporters.

It's young people and groups of lads, lads, lads.

The 11.32 Brighton to Southampton last week had virtually no mask wearing and was full of fans of both teams from Cosham onwards. People were eating sandwiches, drinking coffees or, in the main, tucking into boxes of beer. Against Leeds, though it was not mandatory to wear a mask at that time, Leeds fans were exactly the same as Brighton fans on the trains over, mask-less, but at least in part due to consumption of goods.

The uncomfortable truth is that you stop this with not only mask enforcement but dry trains and food-free trains and no sales on the concourse. Do that and attendance at games will drop by 50% by itself and the club, transport companies and their suppliers will lose yet more crippling amounts of money and go under.

People should do the right thing by their fellow humans and, in general, I do because I don't want to kill someone. But getting to 100% mask compliance on match day will take an awful lot of aggro. I've quite enjoyed my last two away games. If I'd not been able to eat and drink on the train I'd not have gone - and, like it or not, there's the get out.

Very true if not a little uncomfortable to admit. Pre match ritual like meeting friends, having a pint etc is as much of what it’s all about as the game itself. Hard as that is for armchair fans to fathom. And let’s face it, how many of us would have got through the Priestfield years without alcohol c/o The Chequers PH?!!

Is this all about steering a difficult path of creating ‘bubbles’ with people whose appetite for covid risk taking is no more than our own while trying to keep away from those where it is greater than our own? Going to matches seems to bring this to a head.

So, i've missed all of this. Excuse me.

Are they suggesting that they will enforce mask wearing whilst watching the game?

In the concourses and bogs obviously a good idea, but in your seat?

No you don't need to wear while in your seat

How does any of that explain non-compliance in the East Lower concourse - hardly groups of “lads, lads, lads”!

I wonder if it’s more a matter of not wanting to stand out by wearing a mask.

3. Face coverings will be required when travelling to and from the stadium on public transport and when moving around all internal areas of the stadium. The only exception will be when eating or drinking. We would also strongly recommend they’re worn inside the stadium bowl at all times.

And the NS concourse. Thousands across every age group mask-less, at every game.

The very rare mask wearers you can count on one hand.

Actualy the club strongly recommends that you do wear a mask in your seat, like the Man City home game last season. I wore a mask throughout that match and it didn't detract from one of the best nights of my life at The Amex at all.

I agree the over-reaction has been ridiculous from some parties, particularly the media stirring up fear. However this quote is misleading as I believe it's from the end of November and Covid is a disease with a lot of lag. It is also unlikely to present as a huge problem for the demographic most affected by her comments, the young and healthy. What Omicron means for older populations such as Western Europe contains, is largely guesswork for the next week or two. It is a hope that Omicron may be milder but could be that its severity may be mitigated by prior infection or vaccination, both of which would result in some immunity from t and b cells.

Not legally enforcable. Thanks, Boris

And as pointed out elsewhere, you need enforcers to enforce. The weight of numbers precludes that. Pop the mask on at the turnstiles, then take it off on the stairs.

"This is a free country and we should not be telling people what to do".

It's time the head (Boris) is cut off the beast, I feel.

I suppose if the club wanted to go down the ‘let’s get heavy’ route they already have the means at their disposal - I think. For example, if it kicks off on the concourse with someone refusing to wear a mask then surely it would be covered by CCTV. Said miscreant would then be identified (eventually) and the necessary action taken, away from the heaving masses.

Hopefully none of the above will happen and everyone concerned will respect the wishes of the club and their fellow fans.

Crazy isn’t it . You hoped after all the scientists fear and proven wrong predictions previously that people would learn but it seems the same old people now hysterical again . Media really has the control and the fear created this time is sad to see .

Still it gets the boosters out there I guess which the aim .

Some would do well to change their knickers and relax a bit though

Lets be honest here, nothing will change at the Amex. Not once since we've been back have I 1) Seen anyones id checked, 2) Seen a covid pass be checked 3) Seen anyone questioned on concorse without a mask.

I (or people I’ve been with) have had ID/Covid passes checked at least 4 times………agree re masks though.

I think this is the key bit, that renders the rest of the piece null and void.

I have had both checked more than once. Nobody wants to approach the anti maskers though. Luckily I wear a mask to protect them though:D

As I also explained in my post they will be “eating and drinking” and they still can in the Plan B rules. It’s a loophole, simple as that.

I discovered an Easyjet coffee is EXACTLY the right temperature to last from serving to pre-landing announcement between Gatwick and Edinburgh

What a win for you...maximising your exposure to anything hanging about in the recycled cabin air

Never been challenged about wearing one at the Amex either. Interesting to see if it gets enforced. Basically looks like much the same protocols we had with the limited-capacity games.

Might be an issue for anyone who, ahem, doesn’t have the same name as that which is on the ticket (depending on how the pre-match certification works)

But why would you have to wait to be challenged? It's in your own best interests isn't it?
