Wouldnt have happened when we were fans not customers. Come to think of it Goldstone and Withdean were very muddy

The whole stadium is actually 45 degrees out from the named stands.

West Stand should be called south west
East Stand should be called north east
South Stand should be called south east
North Stand should be called north west

Due south is actually a point at the corner of the south and west stands if you were to stand on the centre spot.

The Goldstone, on the other hand, really was North - South - East - West.

Call me a nerd if you like, but it is fairly clear on satellite views on Google maps.

Salute Mr Hitchcock, eh? ???:thumbsup:

Would have and did have happened then.

I think I just invented a new tense (long past imperfect) :lolol:

No it’s not. It is skimmed off but certainly not relaid. Underneath the surface is a woven mat. Currently there’s two types of pitch in use at the top clubs, one which uses artificial grass along with grass and one that uses a mesh matting, ours is the latter. Arsenal, Spurs, Wembley and many others use the former.

99.9% sure that the last 2 summers in a row it has been relaid.

At the final game of the 2016/17 season at Villa Park the Aston Villa ground maintenance team were awarded the EFL Award (I think it was) for the best pitch. It was immaculate, the best I've ever seen at any League ground, and in remarkable shape for a pitch in May. The company that laid the pitch also did the same for, of all places, Selhurst Park. If we could get a pitch like the one at Villa Park it would be wonderful. I've never thought our pitch was that good.

Just found an article you’re 50% right the pitch was replaced in 2018 to a hybrid pitch.

Never much wrong with the Goldstone though.

Everything seemed much easier then.

Well in those days it seemed fine, but just like other grounds, compared to the bowling greens we play on now it was almost uncomparable.

But yes l know what you mean, the Goldstone days seem so long ago now.

Anyone remember the match where the mini sink hole opened up at Withdean. Ground staff had to come on the pitch and fill it with a couple of buckets of sand?

It doesn’t help with all these knee slide celebrations. Mooy left tractor sized tracks after his goal the other day. :)

Need to stop scoring those bloody goals - would help a lot.
