So we beat Middlesbrough for biggest in football league but a couple of Prem teams bigger? Sounds right. Same as Wembley will do me and good considering our style of expansive football :)

Sounds like they had the Premier League in mind when planning pitch size.

5th. It is smaller than Goddison Park but bigger than Villa Park.

Yes, you're right. I stupidly ADDED the length by width rather than realising i HAD to multiply it.

You mention Villa. Going there it felt as though that pitch was EPIC so Falmer should be excellent.

Sorry if fixtures.....

Tommy Elphick mentioned on Late kick off last night that the Amex pitch would be the biggest in all professional leagues in England. Was not aware of this until now.
Can anyone confirm this in any way???
My understanding is as follows....... F.A. pitch lengths must be 100-130 yards, widths must be 50-100 yards. Man City currently have the biggest at 116 x 77.
Thoughts? Comments? Corrections?

So could a team produce a perfectly square pitch 100yards x 100yards?

That way, the goals could be rotated around each 4 sides, just remove the goal area markings!!! Think of the commentary and all the great lines they could use.........................Its a game of 4 quarters

How big was the Goldstone pitch? I seem to recall that was supposed to be one of the bigger pitches too?

I think for Internationals it has to be between 110 and 120 yards long and 70 and 80 yards wide. So splitting the difference 115 x 75 yds is sort of "standard".

Not so much the size of the pitch that counts - more like how they decide to mark it out. A large pitch certainly will allow Gus to be flexible on the width of it, ensuring it is the maximum possible when Stoke come to town!

I think we are talking about pitch markings rather than the size of the area of grass.
I'm pretty sure this also has to be submitted each season and can't be changed until the following summer. Might be wrong.

In response to the 100m x 100m post - the answer is no. The pitch has to be longer than it is wide.

Interestingly, Wolverhampton Wanderers are currently the only team in the league that could accomodate a regulation pitch sideways in their stadium. Next time you watch Match of the day, marvel at how far the North bank (left hand) and Steve Bull stand (far side to the camera) are away from the pitch.

When they do their ground improvements will they be lowering the pitch and bringing the seating closer? I've often wondered why their stands are so far from the pitch.

I think they'll certainly be bringing the stands closer to the pitch, that'll give them the space to put in the extra capacity.
