I would add the idea of perhaps being too sweaty to sit in a stadium of people after cycling there
Possibly the hassle of getting changed to avoid that
Storage of things (even if you don't get changed and thus have the change of clothes to worry about, you don't seem to be able to take your helmet in with you, maybe you cycle with other stuff (repair kit, just in case, etc)
Not being able to drink and cycle

Sweaty ? I’ve run to the Amex from Burgess Hill for early season games in 20 deg+...........nothing new about social distancing [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Ticking the sustainable boxes in the planning process. Zero pollution, whereas even rail and park n ride ultimately emit some carbon.

The enlarged bike racks at the stadium may just sit there gathering rust.

There are nowhere near enough cycle racks at the moment. Even on a rainy day you will maybe get one of the shitty uncovered ones. Biggest problem with cycling is getting away from the game as there is no dedicated cycle lane going away from the stadium. There are shared lanes with pedestrians which are chock full of ...pedestrians and there are roads with no cycle lane where you get to play chicken with oncoming traffic going back the university route past the queues of cars or play lets join the A27 at 5mph where cars are screaming past at 60. Most cyclists walk or slowly freewheel their way to the Bridge and can then cycle from there.

Cycling could be a solution to the social distancing public transport issues but it just isnt practical with the set up as it is sadly.

Cycling to the ground is a breeze though and very fun except for the narrower part of the Lewes road which is a very dangerous stretch of road.

Is Amex cycle locking up secure, that is, just genuine cyclists parking up? Or are there opportunities for t*ssers to say park up with a cheap bike, snap a padlock and head off with much nicer bike?

I have a decent bike, but tend just to go on recreational rides from home and back. Carrying a couple of heavy, quality padlocks around is a bore I avoid.

It’s by where the bandstand used to be and seeing as there is cctv and quite a few police around on match days it is quite secure though would recommend a decent lock!

I saw them live in Pompey Guildhall, circa 1979ish.
They were ok.

I saw them at The Dome, supporting Caravan in around 75. I istill have the programme.

They were shit.

Much ludicrous drooling over full-body-emersion-baptism-ready female singer

The racks under cover have decent bars you can lock your frame and wheel to. The useless wheel lock wankery ones with no cover are totally shit though because most locks arent long enough to lock the frame and wheel to and most bikes have quick release wheels, even if they dont they are not hard to remove at all. Most of us have decent locks that would require bolt cutters or angle grinders. My lock is a Hiplok and you can wear it like a belt. I agree it is a bore, a lock can weigh almost as much as a decent road bike. Also for some reason the rail station took exception to us locking to the fences surrounding the station so we cant do that anymore.

Things like that really piss me off. Only in England would some hi-viz twunt with a clipboard put the blocks on a common-sense solution that affects NOBODY, from doing that. Pathetic.

Yea really made me angry because clearly there arent enough official bike lock stations so rather than think oooh we should maybe provide some more just stop us using the alternative. If cycling is going to be part of a social distancing solution they really need to look into this because as it currently stands it is not good enough for pre covid.

Also they dont even need a hi-viz twunt all they have to do is put up a sign saying any bikes locked to these fences will be removed. That is threat enough.

When I have to, I use two Kryptonite (Gold Secure rated) U locks, also one of the cable linkages.

I gather an angle grinder is required, so it’s not going to happen when there are less secure bikes all around.

But the bulk and unnecessary weight is annoying, all because the vermin of society don’t want to earn a living.

Giant construction staff or mix up in the vehicle size required? Nice to see they have had their Ready Brek though.

I feel it today. I really feel it. :ffsparr: Normally that only happens when I make a reference like that at work and get blank looks from 30 somethings. I made passing reference to Humphreys, Ian Rush and Accrington Stanley once in relation to milk and got thousand mile stares from a whole office.

I’m glad the early 80s throw back ended there. Had you also patted the young secretary on the arse and said “two sugars please” you’d have more than stares to worry about.
