Of the 300 or so people employed FT/PT by Azure only 1 on them lives outside of the BN Post Code

I don't think people were disputing that, and I'm sure Azure would be shouting loudly about that stat., but what people are probably referring to is their assumption over the proportion of EU workers doing the minimum wage jobs in this country.

I'd like to see a stat on that as well, see if peoples assumptions/generalisations are actually true....I do often wonder if becuase they get served by one Polish worker they assume the whole concession is staffed by EU workers?

£6.50 an hour, that's good pay for Brighton non skilled workers. Shop jobs in town rarely go above the minimum wage (£5.93). It's not a liveable wage, but least it's honest. My wife is between career jobs, and so working in town while job hunting. There is no need to even go near jobseekers if you are willing to put the hours in, but so many can't be bothered.

The jobs must have been fairly advertised. The interviewees who got the jobs presumably impressed their prospective employers more than the interviewees who didn't get the jobs. Down to Azure who they decided to select.

Well exactly, I'm just surprised that there aren't local people snapping up the jobs, which was implied at the hearings.

By local, do you mean British born?

At the WSU familiarisation girl we spoke to was a Sussex Uni student. She said it was a nice local job for her and was enjoying it.

My colleague's daughter (a student) has got a job as a waitress at the Amex. Like most of the Azure jobs it is only a few hours a week so therefore very much a casual job. Someone who has a family or looking for full time work isn't going to take a casual job and lose their job seekers allowance, housing benefit and council tax benefit. Even 4 hours a week @ £6.50 an hour is £26 which would be deducted from their JSA.
There are full time jobs such as the superstore, ticket office etc which seem to have been taken by local people. I think there are approx over200 staff working for the club now (not Azure)

Yeah not being abled to speak english must really have impressed, its clear the company just wants cheap reliable staff like many companys and the eastern europeans suit that roll.

They are very hardworking people and its ashame the local chav's don't have the same mentality:glare:

This is probably the best explanation of why some jobs seem not to have gone to local people who have been living in the area for some time. Thanks.

No - I mean living in the deprived areas of Brighton and Hove that we were told that the community stadium would provide much-needed work for.

How do you know that the staff don't live in Moulscombe?

How do you know they don't? Unless you asked every one of them.

OK - it's just that there was such a big fuss made about providing jobs and rejuvenating an area with high employment - and I was worried that this wasn't happening in favour of cheaper - possibly less qualified (some posters have mentioned that the servers couldn't speak English - a basic qualification surely?) labour. Particularly as the catering contract has been out-sourced. That's all. It wasn't meant to be an anti-eastern European workers post. More a pro the people of east Brighton looking for work. Apologies.

It wouldn't surprise me if a substantial number of the Eastern Europeans working at The Amex already have another job (40-48 hrs a week) and the 4 hours on a Saturday or midweek evening helps them with the ever rising cost of living.
