Bloke walked into a shop and bought groceries, paid with a $20 note that the shop then thought was fake (later found to be genuine) and then paid for it with his life. Hardly living by the sword at the time eh?

I watched the documentary 13th on Netflix and it has challenged my first thoughts of the incident. It doesn't matter about Mr Floyd's history it's yet another in a long line of unnecessary deaths that wouldn't happen to a white man (except I've just seen the video of Tony Timpa)

Well probably because I posted a video of police being unconcerned about how they treat people, and going as far as making jokes while someone is dying at their hands. It may or may not have been the right thread for it but it is certainly in context of the discussion.

It just demonstrated the bad practice the police use in the US. Did you have an issue with it?

Me, no. Not sure I can have an issue with it, as I didn't know what the reason was - hence I asked.

Your reply prompted me to search for the Tony Timpa issue, and there are many on Twitter (of all backgrounds) saying that maybe the incident with him and others shows there is a general problem with police brutality in the USA, and not just limited to race.

I can't disagree. There is also a tendency to become apopleptic and insulting when you introduce facts that do not match the agenda.

To be fair and balanced, there is also some of what HWT would call "whataboutery" in some instances. However, there are also instances when that is used to deflect having to take onboard facts that may require a re-think in the person's original opinion.

Don't you just love it? I think the more methods humans have to communicate with each other (and at faster speed) the more polarised and angry they become. I also find it bewildering how quickly a narrative becomes accepted as a cause you must support.

A lot of people really. It's been done in other cities. The issue is that the police department have been burdened with responsibilities they are not fit for - responding to mental health incidents that are better dealt with by social services or mental health professionals, there's currently a video going around of a police officer pinning to the ground a black woman who called the police to mediate a disagreement about a land deed. There is no need for them to work crowd control as often as they do. It is the equivalent of the regular 'root and branch review' the FA promises after every world cup (but actually following through). It's about moving the funding that would go into police to the appropriate services that can handle these things much better.

I see your point to a certain extent, but BLM are not interested in anything other than a nationwide dismantling of all police departments and appropriating the tax dollars as they see fit. Insane.

Think of it as a hard reset. It is a good idea, it removes any link from the police force that they had to the Police force they will have and was succesfully done in New Jersey a few years ago restoring faith in the police and reducing crime.

So the breakdown of law and order, criminal damage, arson, looting, rioting and desecrating historical monuments is the only way to change anything? If the Climate protestors, who are just as fired up and passionate as BLM, don't see any quick change, then they will need to start vandalising aircraft, damaging corporate HQ's and factories, setting up road blocks etc to get back at those guilty of excess carbon emission. Violence is not the answer. It damages the cause. Any sympathy that BLM generates quickly starts to disappear once the inevitable violence starts.

Nonsense, nothing changes until things start getting smashed up, sad but true.

A few years ago I spent some time in the back of a Minneapolis police car, and the cops in front were the very definition of 'Minnesota Nice'. Its not a myth. You could not meet nicer people.
