What started off as a light -hearted thread (I think) has turned into a bit off a grumpy one.
Now, there's a surprise!

You're either "Team Rudd" or you're not. If the latter, then you need to take a good, long, hard look at yourself.

Neither myself, and anyway, whenever I take a good hard look at myself in the mirror, I am often surprised that I am still alive!

You probably think that claiming all Black men have big knobs is a complement as well, right?

Crikey Mike, I get home from work and you reckon I think that. Where did that come from?

That statement says a fair bit about you and nothing of me.

Just for the record, I'm a caring Socialist, and don't care for Amber's politics, it's just that I think she is rather fragrant.

There was talk of her taking Soames Mid Sussex seat, but she's now been selected and confirmed as the candidate for Hastings at the next election.

have to say fair play if she wants to try. or maybe she fancies a nice peerage...

My Tory MP lost her 10,000+ majority at the last election and got one at 39, but she was a yes woman. Though not sure Rudd falls into this category

To be fair, AA Gill was a gifted writer and despite his lapses, was responsible for some powerful and sometimes amusing pieces.
CBA to quote here, but there are plenty of examples if one wishes to look.

Yeah, I know.

But why be fair? ???:lolol:

I enjoyed his journalism. Even though I am supposedly a lefty snowflake, I was a big fan of another right wing iconoclast, Bron Waugh, but even he wouldn't actually shoot a monkey.

In the event that she loses her seat at the next election she would no doubt be put into the first available safe seat that comes up even if it means persuading somebody to retire rather than wait to pass away.

Would then be out of politics for 5 years, unless there was a gilt-edged Tory seat at a later by-election.

Better to change her candidacy to another seat once the next GE is announced.

She's up for the fight by all accounts. It was all done and agreed when she was out of cabinet in the autumn, but it still seemed strange though. That said, her leadership ambitions are a non-starter now though and I suppose with the current political climate her association have got to have to have a candidate confirmed, in place and ready to go at the drop of a hat.

Now she's back in cabinet as Work and Pensions Secretary with UC roll-out ongoing, good luck to her with all that though. She'll need it.

Seeing the ages of many MPs especially tory it wouldnt be long before a vacancy came about I wouldnt think as no doubt one would be offered a peerage to move up to the Lords creating a vacancy as an MP.
