Labours only way of getting support these days is to count on people who have never lived under Labour before, that's generally people who come to this country to work, and young people who believe labour will hand them a pot of gold. This is why labour are so keen to reduce the age in which you are allowed to vote, because they can no longer rely on their old voters anymore, after they pissed so many of us off.

They have been going down that route since 1997. Why do you think Blair and his cronies opened the floodgates to 300,000 to 500,000 new people to this country? Oh sorry, I forgot. It was because we were desperately short of labour to work in online warehouses, pick seasonal crops or work in fast food restaurants.

These people who've come here to work in online warehouses, pick seasonal crops or work in fast food restaurants when Tony Blair and Labour opened the floodgates, particularly after the A8 accession in 2004, because they knew they'd vote Labour - They're unskilled workers, so I'd hazard a guess they're most likely to be EU citizens. EU citizens don't vote for Labour or for anyone else in a UK General Election because they can't vote in one.

I agree but probably not for the same reason as you. He was horrendous at Education but appears to be doing a pretty decent job at environment - an environment minister that actually appears to want to protect the environment is a rarity.

He does - I put it down to his desire for Brexit, and thus just trying to shore up one of the better arguments against Brexit, that it will weaken environmental protections in the UK. Some of what he has said he will do is good, certainly.

(MILLIONAIRE BANKER) Son of a bus driver Sajid Javid is the new Home Secretary.

Fixed.

Edit: Nothing erong with being a millionaire or a banker but this bus driver rhetoric is grating. Neither have anything to do with his ability to perform the role.

Just think it is ridiculous that a mistake causes so much disruption to a government department. Not prejudice to either side of the political debate, as it was same when labour were in power. This "you must resign" when mistake occurs does not hold for any continuity. How can a department function when its boss moves every 12 months (rightly or wrongly)?

It wasn't the mistake. It was the repetitive lying. Her arrogance did for her - signing things off without reading them...then assuming that since she couldn't remember signing them off this allowed her to claim she hadn't. Sort of person who would forget to instruct the army if we declared war during the middle of a dinner party, and then claim later that there was no war, and if there had been she would not have done what she did. So arrogant and self-serving she's a danger to us all. Or.....was. I have no confidence that Abbott would be any better, mind you.

There's the 'born in Rochdale to Pakistani immigrant parents' one as well. (I thought all immigrants were supposed to vote Labour?)

Anyway, I wonder how this has gone down with those on NSC and elsewhere who have a very keen interest and strong views on the Pakistani immigrant community from Rochdale. I hope for her sake Katie Hopkins lawyer has Tweeted her......................

Back in the late 80's I was a police officer in London. We had an immigration officer who was based permanently in our working area. He conducted his own enquiries and we assisted him when necessary with search warrants etc. It was a good, working relationship and was very effective in detaining illegal immigrants.

Move on to 1997 and this system of working co-operation with the immigration dep't had finished (no idea why). We were called to a lorry park by a German HGV driver who believed there were people hiding in his trailer. On opening up the rear doors we found sixteen males. All of them were non threatening, tired, thirsty and hungry. Not one of them could speak a word of English, had no ID. They were arrested on suspicion of being illegal entrants to the UK and taken back to the local police station. On phoning immigration we were told that they were unable to deal and we were told to give them the address of Lunar House in Croydon (Immigration Dep't HQ) and to release them, which we had no alternative but to do.

It was from this point on that I realised that the immigration system in the UK was struggling to cope and maybe not fit for purpose. Even from a humanitarian point of view, I found it incredible we were releasing sixteen males onto the streets of London, none of whom could speak, read or write English, had no money, no ID and didn't know where they were apart from the UK. I have no idea whether they made it to lunar House or whether they were absorbed into the underground economy like so many others.

It doesn't therefore surprise me that in 2018 the Home Office is still struggling with immigration and how to deal with it fairly and effectively. I wish the new Home Secretary all the best. He or she is going to need it.

Interesting sub discussion. So you and bashlsdir are 'old labour' types who left in disgust when Tony Blair got in? Since you both seem to deplore Corbyn too (apologies if I misunderstand and you are Corbynistas) this means you are old labourites who hate both right wing and left wing labour.....and this is because Blair let in lots of immigrants? And presumably you think Corbyn will do the same? And now you back which party as a better alternative, I wonder? Or perhaps you are strident 'I don't vote anymore' types?

Crikey. I have come across some half baked reasons for political allegiance (or head in sand-ism non-voting) but this takes the biscuit. Old labour types deplore left and right wing labour for letting in (or planning to let in) too many immigrants. I am shaking my head in disbelief.

So, we have not had a labour government for many years now, and the tories have failed to tackle immigration. Where I live we are awash with seasonal labourers from East Europe (outside the EC), many of whom have stayed, and all of whom could have been kept out by longstanding British law under the tories.

And yet you STILL carp on about labour like it is a disease. I suspect you have nothing more than grumpy old man syndrome. I am an old man, and I feel the grumpiness too, but I tell myself 'stop, now. People were not all fragrant, honest, hard working rosy cheeked white people you could trust with your life back in the 1970s, the days of full employment, no strikes, no immigrants, and when Britain ruled the waves and England won the world cup every year, and all the players were *white' and that, in fact, despite my grumpy old man biology, things actually are getting better, and some of that is down to the East Euopeans working hard in the fields around Faversham while all the locals do something more dignified.....

*actually that bit is correct

as much as the law should be followed, claiming someone is fascist when they want to uphold a popular vote is kinda taking things too far.

Fair enough. So, what would you call someone who wants to circumvent British law?

I have them both down as Turn Coat Tories ie Labour supporters who have got into middle management, or bought their council house, and turned their back on the working class.

more serious point, if there had been a slightly better formed bill for the referendum, the court would have found differently because it would have been law. disagreeing with law (while not actually breaking it) is not fascist.

So that's the 5th cabinet resignation since the election:

Michael Fallon (Being a perv)
Priti Patel (Being into Israeli soldiers)
Damien Green (Being into porn)
Justine Greening (Being into education)
Amber Rudd (Being useless)

Somwhat short memory (not surprised considering it’s you)

You not remember 5th June 2009? 5 resignations in one day, as quickly as he was replacing them another left.

As they are both labour haters, in what way are they champagne (Tizer, or even indeed National) socialists?

You can accuse ManOfSussex of having a short memory only if he's forgotton something more recent than the resignations to which he alludes. Using your reasoning he could call you a complete buffoon for forgetting something that happened in the 1930s. You could accuse him of hypocrisy if you like, though. But....given that he isn't making any comparison (its you doing that) he could acuse you of 'whataboutism'.

Oh....

(edit, man himself beat me to it :lolol:)
