I wasn't convinced I'd like a Kindle as I'm an old-school fart who likes the feel of a paperback. And I still do. But I treated myself to one when I got a generous Amazon gift voucher from work, and I LOVE it. Most of the stuff I like is cheap as chips to download onto it, and I've ploughed through about 5 books on it since the turn of the year (which is a lot for me). Currently reading the Shane Warne autobiography 'No Spin' on it, which is hugely entertaining.

Small and slim enough to just slip into my pocket. I'm going to be all over this little slut when the weather perks up and I start my long walks again (the matte non-glare, non-reflective screen is superb, no issues reading it in direct sunlight). Anyone who's umm'd and err'd about getting one like I did - DO it. £40 is a steal for a lovely bit of tech, great heads-up [MENTION=6886]Bozza[/MENTION].

My Kindle has turned me from someone who was constantly silently berating myself for never reading to someone who now does some reading.

I don't mind a novel, but biographies are my thing. I'm loving browsing the fasands that are out there, and so many that are free to download to the Kindle for Amazon subscribers, or maybe for a couple of quid.

I also like the fact I can read it in bed without the doris grizzling. Previously, with a book, I'd have to have my bedside lamp on - which apparently makes it "impossible" for her to sleep, despite the FACT that she can gonk off easily enough on the sofa, in a fully lit lounge, with the telly on.

But I digress.

My Kindle is "with ads" and all it means is there is an ad on the screen when I'm not using it. I guess the aim is that when you pick it up to use it, you see the ad and may be tempted to buy whatever it is touting.

I've just picked it up now and it's a "Recommended for you" for a book called the Accidental President. I just unlock the Kindle and the ad is gone. They couldn't be more unobtrusive.

Yes, if you can afford it, I think it is. On my previous Kindle I didn't bother but as I was getting money off I paid the extra and much prefer it.

You get the cover of the book you are reading as a screen saver instead of an advert.
