Eh?

A few weeks ago I finally ditched Dish TV over here, and switched to something called fuboTV, a sport-oriented streaming service, that also includes all the major channels [saving myself more than $500 a year in the process]. I watch it on my Smart TV, via my wifi connection - as I do Peacock (the NBC service that shows a lot of the Premier League matches) and ESPN +. In every case, it is perfect - absolutely no difference from watching a cable or dish service.

If you can't watch TV over the internet, it is your particular instance that is the issue, not the technology.

I'll agree to disagree. You can't compare UHD on Sky to any of the online services IMO. Watched all four games on Sunday and it was obvious to the human eye the difference. I'm not saying its bad or its unwatchable just saying there is a noticeable difference. Plus the lag is frustrating if you are an in play punter or have alerts on your phone.

Are you on dial up internet still or something? Consistently find Amazon has best picture quality of them, NowTV and BT app. Admittedly has a 30 second lag but just put the phone down during the match.

No fibre, using a year old Sony Bravia running the latest version of Android. I wasn't comparing it to other online services.

Although I have to say when I made the comments originally I had watched a bit of the Liverpool game via the app on a firestick and it wasn't great, watchable but not great. I watched the Leicester game on Sunday via the native app on the TV and it was much better and last night I watched the Cithe game on the Sky Q app again pretty good. But the difference is still noticeable between satellite and over the web.

Leeds - but not the dirty bit

UHD on Sky is 'over the air' via your dish, and the others are internet based. Of course you can't compare them. Apples and pears.

If as you say you have decent broadband then the problem lies with the processing and refresh rate of your TV, not the stream. As you have read others have no issues at all.

I've been using the Amazon TV app and now can use the Sky Q App both Live and catching up on the recordings - quality on both I'd say was "ok" but not near the quality UHD of Sky's own channels. However if I watch something that isn't a live stream on Amazon (and Netflix) both the picture and sound quality is way ahead of Sky Q. I suspect the quality problem may be down to live streaming?

But that is the point I'm making. I don't want to "cut the cord" until the technology catches up.

I'm not saying its bad or I'm having issues, its just noticeably worse.

My experience is similar to yours - Firestick definitely not as good, and a delay of c30s or so (BHAFC Twitter admin was sadly ahead of the action appearing in front of me). The App is much better - but presumably is piped down the cable to the main Q box not via wifi so I'd expect that.

Re 'cutting the cable' I'm already partly regretting 'upgrading' to Sky Q. Having problems from time to time with the miniboxes dropping off the network - previously had no issues with the two cabled extra boxes.

I'm new to this Amazon stuff but as I posted above there appears to be an issue with Live Streaming. If you go on AVForums which is full of nerds, they are confirming same and suggest it's the frame rate that is the major issue and one that I would concur. If you pause then it's a decent picture, but when watched live it's a tadge juddery. Even Amazon quote on their website that you should turn off all your advanced motion settings on your TV if you are having issues, but I've always had mine set to off and it doesn't make a lot of difference.

You make my point far more eloquently than I have to date. Thank you.

And to reiterate I'm not having a go at Amazon in fact far from it I think its very good and much better than iplayer where I watched a FA cup game recently just the technology generally isn't quite there yet.

Restart the firestick. then clear the cache on your firestick, then make sure the firestick is updated, delete your network and then reconnect your net work.

Close all Apps not in use....

I've also adopted Ethernet connection for my 4K Firestick - 2.4GHz WiFi can be okay and 5GHz can be faster, even on a weaker signal, but for best results [consistency & performance] the solution is Ethernet cable connection to your router/modem [

But granted, not always practical as it depends where devices are located - cable runs
I have an Ethernet wall port in every room in the house with cables all hidden in the cavity-wall - only the phone uses WiFi.

I'm beginning to suspect that the excellent Amazon and general broadband signal we (not just me but also my pal and neighbour with whom I watch games) get here in North Kent is actually French or even Swedish, blown onto our North Kent shores, and sucked into our computers via a secret device installed by Bill Gates and the Illuminati. I'm sure that someone with specialist knowledge of advanced 5G technology can confirm. Calling Swansman.

I've decided to relax tonight, and watch the Liverpool game rather than vacuum my shorts up into my colon, or even duodenum, again, watching the capitulation against Fulham. #badfan.

Probably need to add (and forgive me as it's not the intent to "willy wave") but if you are watching an Amazon live stream on a phone, laptop or a smaller older TV, then the quality won't be so obvious.

However on a new 75inch UHD HDR TV it becomes much more obvious compared to Sky coverage. Its the adage in AV, the picture is only as good as the signal/stream provided if you are using newer, bigger kit.

Maybe but I bet it’s riddled with Coronavirus!!

You filthy northerners have ruined it for those us wanting to nip across the border for a beer!

Monday picture was awful on 2.4ghz and dropped occasionally, pictures was good on 5ghz but also dropped occasionally. I've just updated my firestick and watching the Leeds game and all good so far. Let's hope it stays that way. I'm not sure which ghz I'm on currently.
I've turned motion thingy off, thanks Bladders
Also just checked my Virgin box which has a prime channel but my box isn't new enough for it to work. I might have to get a new router and box off them, unfortunately, it will mean signing up for another year...

Watching the Arsenal game via the Sky Q app - picture is ten times better than Sky or BT produce

I’ve just compared watching the Arsenal game on my iPad and new Panasonic OLED TV (built in Amazon app). The iPad is 55 seconds ahead of the TV - both connected to Virgin Media 200 broadband (TV connect3x by Ethernet). Then tried my Roku stick connected to TV ... that’s 20 seconds behind the iPad ... so 35 seconds ahead of the TV! Bizarre!

Picture on TV very clear on both native TV app and Roku ... BUT ... it is a little juddery compared to Sky Sports on Now TV and BT Sport (via Virgin V6 box).

Does this mean your mate would prefer to watch the Liverpool match, or its his turn :lolol:

Ees complicated.

But, basically, it is his turn. I may be able to persuade him to reconsider at half time, but our pal Dave will be there too and he's likely to want to watch Maureen.

Football, though . . . .

It's is rubbish without a crowd, so I'd rather watch Liverpool if there's a crowd, than watch Brighton without. After all, two may be company, but three's a crowd.

:rolleyes::cheers:
