I agree with Tooting Gull - it is a real shame that the poor girl that was killed seems to be a footnote in a story that is all about Amanda Knox. A few weeks ago I would have preferred to undergo a trial under the Italian justice system than the American system. However it seems bizarre that the lawyer can call Know a 'hypnotic... she-devil' and not even be questioned. Surely we left witch trials behind hundreds of years ago. Clearly not in Italy.

What is weird about this trial is that the victim has become almost a footnote. It's all about Foxy Knoxy.

Even weirder when you consider the victim is arguably fitter than Knox. Foxy Knoxy has the filth factor though. Perhaps Meredith should've made up some catchy internet moniker to get her rightful share of the limelight.

Was about to post about the actual trial. I agree with you about other countries justice systems. Even in modern day Europe some other countries have legal systems that wouldn't be out of place in a dodgy African dictatorship.

You only have to look at how badly the portugese f***ed up the evidence gathering for Madeline McCann to realise they aren't always as thorough, or indeed as fair as us when it comes to solving crimes and locking people up.

Maybe I watch too many american court dramas but aren't they allowed more leeway with their wrap up and would be able to suggest someone was a hypnotic she-devil in their summary, if that is how they have painted events of the night?

Exactly - and before people get all critical of the Italian Justice System they have to remember they are seeing a translation of what was said. If in this country the prosecution in their summing up said ' .....and I put it to the jury that Miss Knox had a seemingly hypnotic, wicked hold over men, and turned into a callous she devil when aroused......' nobody would bat an eyelid.

As for the views of continental police forces - i have seen close hand some fairly awful attempts at policing in this country by Sussex CIDs finest where lack of evidence and following the correct paths of investigation whether they lead to or away from the suspect have been ignored that I would not start criticising the Italian or french law enforcement agencies just on hearsay. There have been enough miscarriages of justice in the Uk in recent times it would be hard to believe they still aren't happening now.

I suspect the general US population can't understand why on earth the Italians didn't simply stitch up the drug dealing black guy, case closed...

If you've seen anything of the Jackson trial it just goes to show how much hollywood does not represent what happens in a US court - both defence and prosecuting teams (mainly defence) have been appalling.Particularly the defence leads you down a line of questioning which seems to be leading up to a vital question, but it goes nowhere. The doctor guy is going down guilty or not.

It's a bit weird that today is also the 16th anniversary of the OJ Simpson trial - another wonderful day for American justice.

I'd never heard of her, or the trial, until reading this thread, which begs the question: where have I been?

Thanks for the heads up, this is fascinating. And yes, obviously I would.

But for those who've obviously been keeping up with this whilst I've been blissfully unaware, what's the popular theory on the motive?

Remember 'Babes in the Wood' murders in Wild Park. The police fair cocked that one up.

We've got quite a decent record too when it comes to jailing the innocent though.
