I think teachers don't need such discouragement, it would not enter the heads of 99.9999% of them because they are not that unprofessional/stupid/ugly (delete as necessary).

Yes, this is true.

I don't think the guy needs punishing as such though.

I doubt very much he's a danger to anyone, so the only reason to do it is as a deterrent to others.

I think Stuart Hall's crimes were far more serious.

He's absolutely not a paedophile. But what he did was wrong - a complete betrayal of trust.

I do have quite a lot of sympathy for him - he's obviously a fcked up dude.

But he's got to serve his porridge to discourage other teachers doing the same thing.

Interested to see if they are together in 5 years time.

this is a very sensible post

How can sympathising with a paedophile and child abductor be sensible.
I can only assume that those of you who are offering this person your condolences are not the parents of young teenage children.
If it was your daughter he had abducted you would not be spouting this nonsense.

This man broke the law and just as importantly the trust that parents placed in him.

I'm 16 and pretty much every girl I know is a virgin. So that and pretty much your entire post (I'm sure you're not being serious) is wrong.

That's what they WANT you to think. lf by some fluke they ARE then, clearly, you don't live in Southend on Sea.

On a serious note. If my teenage daughters married teacher took her virginity and legged it with her...I'd probably hunt him down and kill him. It'll be hard enough for ANY bloke to get near her but a Nonce teacher? Never no not.

He is not a paedophile. Having sex with a post pubescent girl is not paedophilia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedophilia "As a medical diagnosis, pedophilia or paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in persons 16 years of age or older typically characterized by a primary or exclusive sexual interest toward prepubescent children (generally age 11 years or younger)"

I have got young child actually. Please do not make assumptions.

He is a totally fcked up dude. I have a lot of sympathy for him. Prison is not the right place for him, but he's destined to spend a long time there.

Whilst I can understand you rightly wanting to protect your daughter, would you do the same and kill the other partyif your 15 year old son shagged his 29 year old EDATOS female French teacher?

Do you have sympathy for all teachers that abuse their positions of trust with children?

I think you have called this one right. There needs to be some differential between an outright peado and a deluded guy who has issues, I don't believe this guy is a peado and someone who is so ****ed up to download child porn. For sure he is by any standards lacking for a 30 year old man to be in this position. The law needs to judge each case alone without predujice.

I'll take the fifth on that pres.

Obviously my 15 year old son won't get pregnant is my only comment.

Post or pre-pubescent it is never right for a teacher to abuse their position and enter into a relationship with one of their children, surely?

He has been hard done. If he had put the girl in the boot of his car and tied her up then i'd say throw the book at him. But they are in love and let's hope she waits for the guy to get out. Good luck to them both that they are in love.

As I said the guy is ****ed up but for me a paedo ? No. He is just a troubled individual and for that he will get his punishment.

I am uncomfortable with the judge labelling him a "paedo ". There were no " images " on his pc and he seems to be a bloke, lost in a loveless marriage who lost his way. The chances are she was mature for her age and he was immature. 15 going on 20, 30 going on 20. The law states he is bang to rights and he will serve time. If he was in Spain he would not so it is a judgement of the law of the land. For me, a peado ? No. I don't sense this on this case. They may have genuinely loved each other and it appears they did. She has never blamed him. The argument is can a 15 year old know her own mind ? Maybe not. Just a tragic case but I will not throw eggs at the guy, just think he got it badly wrong and there are no winners here. The guy has issues for sure. So lets address those and find out why he did what he did first before throwing him to the Wolves imo.

so what if he has no images on his computer or that he may or may not have been in a loveless marriage or whether she was mature for her age.he was her teacher in a unique position of power and trust and he failed to dispense both those responsibilites.whether or not they loved each other or that she doesnt blame him does not give him the right to groom then deflower a 15 yr old girl whom he has a duty to protect.it has nothing to do whether a 15 yr old girl knows her own mind either.the duty of care lies with him and he failed dismally.i,personally, have no interest in finding out why he did what he did,or if he has"issues",just that this man is punished for a gross dereliction of duty in a job that, above all else, should be about educating and protecting our young people.

You are clearly right in the definition of the psych disorder. Didn't stop the Judge today in his summing up saying he was a paedophile and a danger to vulnerable children and teenagers.

I imagine he has seen and heard more of the evidence than any of us on here and he will treat it as a paedophile crime.

I've got no sympathy whatsoever for the soppy Bellend. He looks like a hunched goth prat as well. He's even got a gob on in his wedding photos.

This creep was shagging her when she was 14 btw...in the bloody classroom as well. Nonce. Seven years.

I can't believe anyone has any sympathies for this bloke.

He wasn't having an illicit affair, he was pursuing a relationship with a child.

He systematically ignored every attempt to push him away from doing so. He knew exactly what he was doing.

For God's sake, get a grip everyone. She was 14 years old when he started to pursue the relationship. What do people think is so understandable that they can find any sympathy for him?

There are 15 yr old girls up and down the length of the country, who go out dressed to the nine's at the weekend, to pubs and clubs etc and most of them with a bit of slap can pass for 18+ easy and half the people on this site would, if given the chance(without knowledge of there age). But this is not the issue here, it's the fact he knew her age and was in a position of trust. He must have known what would happen to him, unless he is a thick as shit. If he truly thought he was in love with her, then he would have resigned his post, got a job outside of teaching and just kept it secret until she was old enough. They may well think they love each other, although I strongly suspect he got off on the idea of what he was doing. Which in itself makes it all a bit sick and make him a threat to young girls. He would have probably gone off her when she turned from a girl in a woman.

Not at all.

From what I've read the girl drove this relationship and he very stupidly let himself get caught up in her fantasy. If wasn't he fcked up, he wouldn't have let it get started let alone go as far as it did.

Sentencing is a really difficult task for judges and I don't envy them.

I think an appropriate sentence here is to ban him from teaching and stop him making any contact with the girl until her 16th birthday.

Think he's going down for a long time and he will have a terrible time in prison as ill educated people label him as paedo and treat him like all paedos are treated.
