His performance last night made me wonder why we signed Mwepu in the summer. Not a dig at him, I like him, but with Biss, Lallana, Moder, Mac, Alzate & Gross in his position, was another CM really required? Plus, of course, Caidedo waiting to step in.

When you look at the subs available to Colombia he's certainly in illustrious company.

And boom ! Peru score with their 1st real shot on goal.

Alzate was poor when he came on last night. It really is different type of game to the Premier League. I'd be very surprised if he started Vs Argentina.

Been impressed with his last few appearances. Worth some praise and more game time I think. Seems to have bulked up a bit this season which might be helping performances and confidence.

I think technically he's the closest we have to Lallana - first touch, awareness, ability to create space and to pick a quick (and mostly forward) pass. One of them has to be in the side for us to function properly - if we have that, supported by an in-form Biss (or Biss-type given he won't be here next season) then we're in much better shape.

Yes, Steven has obviously suffered with injury and now needs a run of games. We need to be investing in his future

I though that he was suffering from longer-term effects of Covid? Either way, the comparison with Lallana is relevant, not just because neither can shoot for toffee, but because he's the type of player that can run a game - I first noticed this when he came on against Everton (at Goodison) for 30 mins back in season 19/20 as it completely changed us. Worth highlighting that Lallana was still was still playing in the Championship for Southampton at age 23.

That seems almost as many minutes as he's played for The Albion this season! What's the possibility he'll be wanting away to get game time soon?

He might have to wait a couple of months, but, this coming season needs to be a big one for him.
