One of the great advantages of not driving is that I have a ready-made excuse to avoid going to Alton Towers - it's a place that's completely inaccessible by public transport, so the kids have no chance. :lolol::lolol:

I was staggered to see the prices though; I think our kids would have no chance of going there even if I could drive.
Can't you get someone else to take them as a birthday treat? When he was about 10 my son really wanted to go to Thorpe Park (some friends of his had already been) and so we said he could go for his birthday. I said he could also invite his TWO (note TWO) best friends, George and Josh, along as well. But he had some other friends he wanted to invite, plus he owed some return invites from other parties. We kept increasing the number until we ended up taking eight! I had to hire a bloody minibus.

I had something similar at Thorpe Park last summer. What with fast-track passes for all of them, KFC and drying off in those hot air huts it was a pricey old day.

The Alton Towers trip has now MUTATED to take in the Crewe game "on the way home" the following day. Got it past her NO problem - she's going to go shopping in STOKE whilst myself and the boy are at the game :lolol:

Oh happy days.

brighton, actually
make sure to leave a few hours for visitin cadbury world factory (and shop, drool..) on the way there, and/or back- in Bournville area of rum.. where else !

when i went, got to see the MASSIVE vats of chocolate, and sample a few items around the factory tour.. and watch looped reruns of the classic adverts.

the shop alsp had some white chocolate tolberone (unheard of at the time..)

never felt so fabulously diabetic in my life!

Nectar points also good for tickets 4300 points at last count per person.
Went end of last season on me points and was told the swipe machines was out of order and write down your name address and card no etc on a bit of paper, did all of this but never got deducted the points :lolol:
If your there in school hols or 2 weeks before best get there as park opens and aim for the thrill rides asap coz they get the longest wait times as the day goes on.
Plenty of travel lodge type places within 30mins of the park if you want cheap,or the B&B's in Alton are pleasant with good surroundings.

Excellent work Mr 10. Similarly, I have convinced my wife, that Crewe is slap bang on the direct route back to Southampton from YORK

I love the way women are so geographically CLUELESS. They truley have no concept of where ANYTHING is. I managed to make a detour to Lincoln on the way back from BLACKPOOL a few years ago ("not out of our way at all love, in fact its probably the quickest route - we'll literally be driving right past the ground anwyay....")

Mind you, I ended up wishing I hadn't bothered.

I have to say I was distinctly unimpressed with the Cadburys chocolate factory. Having grown up with Ronald Dahl I was expecting Golden Tickets, Umpa Lumpas, rivers full of Dairy milk and maybe even a flying lift.

Instead it seemed to be watching a few hungover Brummies on minimum wage stacking boxes of chocs in a warehouse before nipping off for their fag break. And not one of them was a midget.
