Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like leaving these places after an hour ?

I've seriously had MORE than enough after that length of time. Queues, rip-off prices for drinks and food, queues, thousands of hyper kids, queues, idiots in Chelsea shirts, queues, crappy maps that bear no relation to the actual layout of the park whatsoever, queues, f***ing humungus carparks that take forever to get out of, queues, cheapo made-in-taiwan tat in the souveneir shop being sold for a fortune, queues, brats in pushchairs screaming the place down, queues....

Bollocks to all that. I'd rather peel my own face off than go to either of them.

Alton Towers is far superior as long as you don't go during the school holidays, queueing just isn't as fun as riding Oblivion

I'm with Easy on this one. Ok for a bit. Boring after that.

Alton Towers is better but if you live down here Thorpe Park is a pretty decent alternative to having to go to STOKE!

I have some advice for you Easy. Go when all the kids are at school! If you go then you'll find the park is empty, you'll queue for no longer than 10 minutes for anything and you can go home by 2 and avoid paying for their rip off drinks!

Alton Towers is quality. It's one of the best in the business full stop, and good value for money. Not ideal for real tiddlers mind, but good for the adults.

In any case, I'm sure the owners of Alton Towers don't mind if you prefer Thorpe Park. Or Chessington, Cadburys World or Madame Tussauds, since they own the lot.

We had a summer pass to the lot one year and it worked out as great value for money - not least because you can turn up in the afternoon for a couple of hours and not worry about getting value for money. This is particularly good when the weather has been shit all day, brightens up in the afternoon and the park is still virtually empty.

Alton Towers is about 3 times the size and has pretty much all the same rides AND many more, although I'll admit Thorpe Park is a lot better these days and not a bad local alternative

I've never had the chance to go to Alton Towers so far but Thorpe Park was good - and it's not to far away. Stealth owns.

How far away is Alton Towers anyway?

Used to be a bit of a theme park fanboy. Have lost the passion in last few years but Alton Towers is far far the superior. Unfortunately Thorpe park will never be as good because it doesn't have the space to work with, or the setting - it's an unpleasant concrete jungle. It's also not helped by the fact that the management is a disgrace, a few years back it was headed in the right direction but nowadays it piles on excuse after excuse for poor ride reliability and disgusting park state. Alton Towers isn't perfect but it can get away with it on quality of rides for me (Nemesis is the best coaster in UK), not to mention the fact that in general it's a much more pleasant day out. Shame it's so bloody far away. Maybe when we can play Stoke again it will make a great weekend!
