It's the result that matters. Let's be honest if we were crap every game but scraped a 1-0 win everytime no one would care

Again, I will ask, did you go yesterday?

McNulty is talented, but he is struggling at the moment and he is struggling for stamina, he looked dead on his feet after about 65 minutes. That could well be a side affect of only having one kidney.

He has been injured alot recently, and so is more likely not to be fully match fit yet.

We need another leftback to cover the Mcnult when he's not fit. Throwing El-A in there is never going to be enough, and with the Mcnult recovering still he shouldn't be expected to the only option. He needs competition for the position and someone there to support him if he's rundown.
Elsewhere in the defence we obviously need a right-back, or Whing back in form, and a firm-footed centreback to have a more spritely Elf or Tunni to guide next to him. We all know that though. Just have to hold our breath for a couple of days and see if anyone turns up straight away in 2010 as some gossipmongers half-pretend they know.

I found that monster Wycombe centreback quite funny. Muzza brushed him aside and to his grapefruit-sized knees in the second half and that mostly showed how hugely eager Muzza was. He liked the glory of the day of course, but by jingo what a stirling performance. I began to forgive him for Brentford away, but haven't fully yet.

Our fullbacks were acting under orders to tuck in alongside the defenders. This allowed too many crosses into the box.

Don't blame McNulty and Hoyte - they were doing as told.

We won 5-2 so, frankly, I couldn't care less if we played shitter than we ever have, as long as we are winning I don't care if its ugly.

We're not, though, are we? 'Winning'. Look at the wins total in the league table, home and away.

I was delighted about the result yesterday, just as I was about Southampton. But I can say without any hindsight since I said it then that our players seem to get 'up' for certain games or situations out of self-interest. Like Gus's first match. Like the match before the transfer window, whether they want to stay or leave.

That is completely different from being a good pro, and having a pride in your level of performance at any time of year and in any game. It is Gus's job to identify the worst culprits and bomb them out, because we don't need them.

To all those who keep saying Glenn doesnt want to be here I would suggest that he made a fairly good effort at proving otherwise and in fact got booked for celebrating with the fans.

Celebrating with the fans at least twice in fact. The ref warned him for it after his second, then booked him as he did it again for his third.

Let's hope this is a turning point eh? I seem to remember a game at home to Torquay at the beginning of the Division 3 championship season.

We had been booed off the previous bank holiday Monday after losing at home to Kidderminster, and we sailed into a 3-0 lead early on, before some horrendous defending saw it come back to 3-2, and then us have to clear off the line before half-time. After some choice words by MA at half-time, we went on to win 6-2, and start the incredible run that took us to top of the table.

Now, I'm not suggesting for a minute that will happen with this team, but winning 5-2 is a massive confidence booster. Let's hope they remember that second-half performance, clearly how it should be done, and what this team is actually capable of.

I think we need some perspective - not only keeping our feet on the ground after beating Wycombe, but in judging our defensive lapses. ....
I must admit I've been pleasantly surprised by the lack of over-reaction on here. I was expecting at least half a dozen threads all saying stuff along the lines "Ha! where are the doom-mongers now? I knew player for player we had one of the best squads in the divison and that result proves it. Playoffs here we come!" In fact I think everybody has accepted that, yes, it was a good result and therefore should rightly be celebrated but it doesn't automatically mean that we're now on our way to the sunlit uplands of the play-off zone.
