Alternative to video refs

FIFA are set to test a ball with a microchip in it that makes a wristband worn by the referee vibrate when it crosses the goal line.

Seems a good idea.

still might not work, the chip would have to be glued into the ball somehow and could go off even though the whole ball has'nt crossed the line....just the side the chip is glued on!

I think the sensor that would detect the chip would be half the width of the ball back from the line, with the chip in the middle of the ball. This way it would have to be completely over the line to register.

I think it would work. The censor would be in the centre of the ball & they would have some sort of magic eye thing like they have at wimbledon set at the point where the whole of the ball is over.

Thats as far as technology should go.

To be tested at a game next month at Millenium Stadium so Im guessing a Wales friendly.

Video refs were tested in Denmark last year and received good reports but this would be a better option I think as would not slow game down at all.
