The build up to Calderon's goal was just epic, and the number of audible groans in the West Upper when someone passed it back to El-Abd or Dunk were just embarassing. It's better to keep the ball, than try a 50/50 pass and lose the ball. Today's goal is a shining example of that, bloody brilliant.

|I would be interested to see the % of possession we had today.

Brian Clough used to say that the biggest crime in football was giving the ball to the opposition. When we try to play the incisive ball across the field we often find that it is cut out, putting us on the back foot, so I'm never bothered if we are knocking it about and keeping possession.

Where I sit in WSU it was very positive today and I didn't hear any real moaning. In fact I thought the support was excellent and full of good humour today.

Well I'm in the WSU and thought that was the best we have played for a very long time. I have no problem with the ball going backwards but my single criticism of today would be when El Abd got the ball with acres of space in front of him but just stood still. Didn't do it everytime but probably more than was necessary. Doesn't have to sprint forward but just take up some of the space and draw an attacker to him which in turn creates space for others to pass to. Small criticism but other than that, no problems with the way we played. Hope Hoskins stays fit.

Would add that in block C didn't hear any moaning.

We have a 'know it all' just behind us in WSU, running commentary all game, every game! Classic today was he was crying 'forward, quicker, forward oh bloody hell wasted chance' during the build up to caldie's goal and then then it went in he was ' great goal, great build up'....
We have started playing 'forward' bingo with him, counted 27 today!!

Ditto. I'm in WSU block B and didnt hear any moaning. One or two tiny groans when the ball went back to El Abd but that was all. I too thought that our play overall today was the best and most assured for quite a number of matches. We bossed BC and once we went ahead the result never looked in doubt.

I don't see anything wrong with people wanting the team to take advantage of all our possession, we get 2 or 3 in the box and Buckley never puts in an early cross. This happened so many times people are bound to become frustrated.

Gus (and most of the fans from last year) think differently:

"We want to keep the ball, sometimes forward and sometimes backwards but we will be keeping the ball and playing our game. I know we are in this beautiful stadium, where the fans have been absolutely brilliant, but there were a few that are really new and perhaps don't totally know how we like to play."

There's 4 blokes who sit behind us in the wsu who constantly moan every week. They're Chelsea, QPR & Spurs fans, JCL's all of them more interested in whats happening in the premier league than the game its self. Always slagging the team off, moaning about our passing game and wanting us to hoof it all the time! F**king idiots!
And I bet they all got their Palarse tickets comfortably !!!! Tossers

I made reference to a specific situation, when midfielders had made the effort to push on into the box and Buckley seemingly refuses to put in an early cross and instead either plays it straight into a defender who has closed him down or plays it back to midfield where we are now out numbered because our midfield have pushed up.

One good thing came from Buckley's indecision though, Calderon got so fed up with him doing nothing with several excellent crossing opportunities he came up to stand next to him and showed him how to cross, unfortunately it was a rubbish cross and went in the goal instead though.

TBH, I moaned at Navarro (I am a bad fan) just before Sparrow's shot, we had created the opening and instead of playing a progressive pass for Vincelot to run on to, Navarro played it behind him (not for the first time). I totally accept the patient play concept, but if we create an opening we should go for it. Fortunately, Spaz resurrected the move with the shot that James save. Regardless of what Gus says, it is NOT good football to ignore clear opportunities to score or get behind the full-backs, which is in effect what we had built up to. I would say the 'audible gasp in that instance was appropriate.

Yep.
Large doses of 21st century PL (except Stoke), La Liga, and Champions League on TV; have made some of the NEW Albion fans unrealistic, in what they feel Championship level players should achieve, especially in our first season.

We can all see from the stands the telling first-time passes we think Bridcutt and Navarro should be making, as armchair managers.

your right - much easier from the stands!

It's been an education, for players, staff and fans alike.

I will freely admit that at times in the past 18 months I have been a bit frustrated watching us, mainly at times when I think they should have been trying more urgently for a second killer goal.

But watching that match yesterday was to truly understand what Gus means when he says "controlling the game", almost his catchphrase.

And in percentage terms the team that controls the game, more often than not, wins.

One guy who was sitting behind me shouted "you're f**king shit Hoskins", after Barnes had a shot that nearly hit the big screen. Idiot.

Navarro had the shot that almost hit the big screen, while Barnes did have a wild shot, it wasn't close to the big screen.

In a similar vein, someone behind me criticised Barnes when Navarro had a shot in the first half that narrowly missed the top of the crossbar.

Just assumed it was Barnes. He still got it wrong anyway...
