I'd not got round to buying the Echo on the recent price reduction to £99.99, and that looks to be fortuitous as Amazon have just announced a whole load of new stuff.

1. All new second generation Amazon Echo for £89.99, available in a range of finishes including oak, sandstone, silver and walnut. Link >>> http://amzn.to/2wmkeco
(Reductions are available if you buy more than one. Use code "ECHO2PACK" to save £25 if you buy two, and "ECHO3PACK" to save £50 if you buy three.)

2. Echo Show. An Amazon Echo with a screen for £199.99. Link >>> http://amzn.to/2yupWtb
(Reduction available if you buy two. Use code "SHOW2PACK" to save £100)

3. Echo Plus. An Echo with built-in smart home hub for £139.99. Link >>> http://amzn.to/2fBCbQW

4. All-new Fire TV with 4k Ultra HD and Alexa voice remote for £69.99. Link >>> http://amzn.to/2xyMJY7

Can someone more familiar with this stuff than me let me know if I'd want the Echo or the new Echo Plus.

Can someone let me know when it supports Sonos

Sonos have an unveil event on the 4th Oct I think. Rumours that Sonos - Echo support will be announced then.
Bozza, are you feeling better now? You'll go for the hub obviously.

I thought the Echo as it was could do smart-home stuff so I'm a little bit confused about the advantages of the Plus.

All that said, we've not got any smart home stuff nor any pressing desire to get anything.

Streaming squashed compressed Amazon Music @256 or 320 on a decent system such as Sonos, bit of a waste?

I think it is more about the control of the Sonos rather than the streaming. The Sonos would still stream its own source, but instead of the sonos being controlled by a device, you could just say 'Alexa, play Foo Fighters on Sonos Living Room' as you walking in the room.

Sonos supports an Amazon Music account already.

Speculation that the new Sonos will have Alexa built-in, or similar >>> https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/9/25/16361538/sonos-alexa-speaker-leak-device

Leeds - but not the dirty bit
Amazon's Black Friday sale is 27th November and Amazon do have a habit of discounting their own products quite well. I may wait a few weeks.

It can control Spotify. I have spotify as my default music provider on Alexa

Interesting ... some sources (including Sonos own customer help page) seem to suggest otherwise. As a result I hadn't even attempted it.

Well I was doing it last night so I'm not sure how if it doesn't work. I have spotify setup in Alexa already and just configured the spotify skill. Then just said play music on Sonos Living room and it started playing music considering it is the only music source I have configured on sonos it must be coming form spotify.

 ... I'll give it a go when I get home and see what happens. I have used the skill to control playback (with TuneIn as the source) and it's pretty efficient, even turns the volume down on your Sonos speaker when you start to ask 'Alexa ...' so that you can be heard. Could do with a command that stops/pauses/plays music in 'All Rooms', at the moment you have to name the room (speaker) specifically.

You can add all your sonos speakers to a group and then tell them to stop all. I’ve created a group called allsonos.

But they have to be grouped at the point you want to turn them off, right? My speakers are very rarely playing from the same source as Daughter #1, Daughter #2, Mrs OnTheRun and I will have different stuff playing in different rooms. Anyway, first world problems and all that ...

I have the Echo, however I'm not quite sure why? I play music on it occasionally, but generally I completely forget it's there :dunce:
