Alireza Jahanbakhsh signs on a 5-year deal for a club record fee

Pretty much a pointless tactic when pace isn't exactly Jahanbakhsh's greatest quality. Nor Gross. Nor Murray

March vs Arsenal for pen?
Andone vs Palace?

Never considered Knockaert slow either.

I became a Brighton fan when Alireza signed and I watched his first few games at 4 am here in the US. Running around telling my wife "brighton till I die!!!" while she was giving me strange looks. Then he fell off, he started to be hated by the fans. He went from being on the bench to not even being on the bench, so of course i didn't wake up early anymore to watch the games and I stopped paying attention. Past few days have been magical for me as I'm sure you can guess. I'm so happy to see most of you guys are starting to like him again and god damn it he deserve it. This dude is such a hard worker probably the most mature and humble player our National Team has ever had. (him and Ando Teymourian.) East Sussex, even though you guys made me sad and disappointed for your lack of support of my boy, I'm so glad things are changing. Love you guys!

-Another Alireza from Seattle Washington.

Guy, we never hated AJ. I don’t think you’ll find anyone here who did.

True, some of us considered him a transfer flop, or bad buy. And let’s face it, that’s completely understandable after a whole season with no goals or assists.

We are Albion fans first and foremost, we don’t support a team for just one player. I can tell you the Amex all roared when that special goal went in, and we were all delighted for Ali, myself included. His character is without question.

Very much this.

He was a flop up until last week. So much hype surrounded this transfer and the buzz feeling went through the roof for most. After that he became a massive flop. To deny this just makes that person a liar and a fool.

He still has much to do to convince many that he can be a success here and many want him to succeed. He is a very likeable and nice guy with a great attitude.. Nobody hates him. We ALL would love to see him turn a corner.

Yes, fine about those players, although Knockaert isn't quick for a PL winger. But the discussion was about how to play Jahanbakhsh, and how he was played under CH. You talked about quick counter attacks. I said it was pointless to play Jahanbakhsh in such a system as, and as you've conceded in previous posts, pace is hardly his greatest attribute. Ergo, playing Jahanbakhsh in a deep block and counter-attacking team is hardly going to bring the best out of him, which is what you were (at the very least) implying.

Have to agree.... When Sheff United did a number on us, I couldn't help thinking that in Chris Wilder they have the best of Potter and Hughton combined. They quickly fell back into solid defensive lines, they also pressed and quickly broke into potter'esqe attacking positions.

But this is exactly how Hughton played when he had players to do the job, he simply didn’t towards the end of last season which is why half the team is now different under Potter

Half only works if football has become a 4 or 6 man sport.

One of GPotts greatest achievements is that he's created this from the same players CH had at his disposal, last season.

I think it’s absolutely right to say Hughton’s team ended up too slow to successfully repeat the game plan of the first season and a half in the Prem. Izzy’s injury was key but Murray’s slowing reflexes and also I think Knocky losing a yard or two of zip from his promotion days was also critical

I think Dullington Seagull might be the exception. The sheer amount of his negative, spiteful, impatient, ignorant and horrid posts on this site about Ali-J is astonishing. His last post on this thread was some drivel about Naylor still expecting Ali-J to leave on loan after his spectacular game against Muff. His dislike of Ali-J is so profound that this particular poster will never admit they are wrong about him and will be at the head of the queue to slag him off if he has a bad game.

+ 60 million and whatever probably very high figure is in Mooy’s loan agreement

You didn't mention money, you said half the team.

Trossard, Mooy, Webster and Maupay are the only new signings.
The first 3 haven't been ever presences, due to either injury or form.

That's a long long way from half the team being different.

I agree CH had the pace removed from his gameplan.
Do you have any answer is to why he carried on in a 'fast counterattacking' style?

Agreed. Murray was great for the first season and a half in the PL but, thereafter, has looked a shadow of his former self. Fantastic servant, and I hope to get the chance to give him a great send-off in a few hours.

No, the discussion I was responding to was specifically about Hughton’s playing style see #7116 which came from #7095.

However, when we signed AJ, I swear a number of NSCers suggested he had good pace, which he blatantly hasn’t, so no he didn’t fit in a team that played on the break, unless he was more central. But as per my previous posts playing style is immaterial if you don’t produce when you have the ball.

I think you meant “ Brighton until Alireza isn’t in the match day squad”

Well, it was sort of a joke making my wife laugh, but having said that since i've never been to England, I make my connections to the teams not by my close proximity to the town, but of course by the connection of each team to Iran's national team members. I will ALWAYS love Fulham, Bolton and now BHA. That's what happens when you wake up early and cheer for a team for a few years. You build a connection with it. No, I don't wake up early to watch Fulham matches anymore but I do still have my Fulham shirts and wear them here and there.

Hated by fans? Nah. Many fans thought he wasn't good enough for the PL (incidentally, I wasn't one of them), but they didn't hate him. I can point out that when the players came onto the field last Saturday, his name was cheered just as all the others.

You're as fickle as our fans. We don't pick the team.

I mean, I guess hate is a strong word maybe dislike and a lot of bit of buyer’s remorse which is understandable if the record signing didn't produce anything.
Anyway, I hope things change.

Certainly not something I would have written a month ago, but:-

I thought we missed him today.

Sure it's easy to miss one player when his entire position isn't filled.

I don't understand why GPott cut off Dunk's only out ball into the opposition right side third of the pitch.

I thought he was useless last time out.

One over-head kick goal doesn't make a great player

Potter's constant tinkering with the team is now starting to hurt us, perhaps. How on earth Jahanbacksh didn't deserve a start today I'll never know. I wonder what it must be like being in the squad - it must feel a bit like russion roulette at times. Bissouma, as another example. One minute it seems like he's back in the frame to start, now back on the bench and didn't even get on today when we were crying out for more pace

I did too. I would much rather we’d have gone with Maupay up front on his own with Mooy just behind and Trossard and Ali J either side.

dont matter
He probably would have been bullied off the ball today, dont think he copes very well when the going gets tough and Villa’s defence weren’t taking no prisoners this afternoon.
