This government will never allow big pharma to loose out to a plant that grows everywhere. After all the companies plow billions into research and development so that we get pumped with toxic, caustic and addictive substances. Add to that they surely cannot look at reason and evidence around the world, oh no. They just want to protect the power they have over us plebs it seems. This family should crowd fund and buy it anyway they can. CBD Oil helps loads of people.

a load of conspiracy nonsense. for a start, regulation hurts pharma companies as much as the public. most their products begin from naturally growing plants and the R&D is in perfecting a method to extract and then prove that it works without side effects. cannabis oil is illegal here, so there's the problem ask for it to be made legal and accept the consequences of that too. comparison with Herion is usful here, it too is illegal and substitutes used for prescription, though likely to cause their own problems if mis-prescribed.

Just wait, when the UK is desperate for any trade deal post Brexit, we will be importing millions of dollars worth of this drug from the states.

His mother was on Breakfast television this morning. It was really emotional watching her talk about her son's illness.

It appears to the casual observer that you are bracketing heroin and cannabis together here. Shirley shome mishtake?

Exactly, you've only got to do a superficial search to find biotech companies working on therapies derived from cannabis (https://www.gwpharm.com/), some of which are already licensed. The therapeutic benefits are from compounds other than the THC that gets you mashed. Extraction, purification and consistency are vital. It is not pharma that keep these medicines from us but the regulatory authorities that, quite rightly, demand rigorous studies on them before they can be given to the public.

Heroin is allowed in medicine in the form of morphine, whilst cannabis in any form isn't.

Not true - Epidiolex is a cannibinoid for seizure disorders and nabilone is used for severe nausea (as examples).

Methadone you mean?

Nope - heroin is diamorphine which is available. As is it's many derivative opiate medications (morphine, fentanyl etc.) and weaker opioids such as tramadol and codeine. Methadone is a related opioid that does not have the same degree of brain penetration.

So the form of cannabis the little boy needs cannot be refused due to drugs legislation then?

Cannabis oil is essentially a partially refined marijuana so it contains many, many chemical entities. Essentially, it is not a medicine in the UK and, therefore, there is not system to supply, legislate, prescribe, monitor etc. within the law. It seems the most unfortunate thing is that he has not had access through a clinical trial or compassionate use to try one of the cannabis-derived drugs.

That is not to say that there shouldn't be a system for him to access this treatment if it has been effective.

You obviously have a lot of knowledge on this subject. From memory I think they may have mentioned trying cannabis derived drugs and they didn't work? I believe it's 11 soon to be 14 EU Countries that the cannabis oil can be used in to reduce seizures. It's proven to work for him and his doctors have encouraged it off the record because the steroids he takes are going to cause organ failure and probably kill him.
