Nicolas looks good at this level (and probably would at a level higher than this, to be honest), Charlie can do a job man marking, Chippy looked like he had never been away yesterday.

Piercy has talent but tends to get injured a lot.

Nice to see some complimentary comments for Charlie. I thought he looked very fresh yesterday, chased well, some nice passes including a couple of very creative forward ones, no passes astray, and even 3 headers won against bigger blokes!

Maybe, but if he'd done that, he might not have helped the defence out. Was it his great tackle/clearance near the end that protected the win? Couldn't see Jarrett doing that to be honest. And Hammond also did it in the Preston game too. That's 4 of our 11 points he probably earned us in those 2 games.

Despite his short stature and his lack of speed, and his age, I still think Charlie Oatway has the potential to become a better player.

All he needs to do is to think before making the pass, which also means he has to control the ball to give him that extra second.

His major fault to me has always been losing the ball in possession as he dallies (e.g. against Swindon) or passing the ball into the channels where the defender was waiting.

Now we have a decent Manager, maybe he can correct some faults in his game and be a valuable squad member.

Ive seen Nicolas on the pitch, notably against QPR. Was he having a bad day. It could conceivably because MCGhee made a cock-up with the tactics.

Count the number of good passes he makes, or lack of.

But somebody said on SCR that he should be pushed up a bit more. A short pass to a fellow Albion player is not much good in the centre circle, but a shrewd ball on the edge of the penalty area might create a goal.

Against QPR, Nicolas was faced by better players. Not much better but they won the midfield and created more chances than us.

By general consensus, in the second half against QPR we were beaten in midfield. We are still not creating enough chances.

Time will tell. Count the decent passes Nicolas makes. Count the times the Albion play the ball to him through midfield and see what happens. Watch how little of the pitch he covers compared to Chippy.

Not impressed yet.

You can't fault Nicolas' work rate, consistency or accuracy of passing over short distances.

The main issues in my opinion are:

1. Goals scored - He is not a goal threat.
2. Long-range passing - Not yet demonstrated that he has much vision.
3. Heading - woeful. The worst in the squad.

The jury is also out on his tackling.

Overall, I think Carpenter is more of a goal threat as he can shoot from distance and take free-kicks. I see Nicolas as a like-for-like replacement with Carpenter, but he is young and I fully expect him to improve.

Definitely worth signing him.

Well, I've watched the majority of games this season, and I would say Nicolas has been our best central midfield player... yes, he plays the simple ball, which I see as a good thing, since it is imperative that possession is retained in The Championship... yes, I would like to see him have a few more shots on goal (his shot at Watford showed he is capable of scoring a few)... yes, he can win the ball... overall, he is a far better player than Oatway, who is a ball-winner, but tends to lose possession far too easily...

I would like to see our club act a little quicker on this one... not wait for the vultures (probably, Reading!!) to steam in and sign him from under our noses... what do we think Sidwell is worth now?... far more than we would have had to fork out at the time he was with us... sometimes, you have to invest in the playing side...

Well it looks as though we've learnt from the Sidwell situation as we've offered him a permanent deal at the club which McGhee is hoping to tie up by the end of the week...
