Gary seems surprised at the comment RDZ was the best coach he’s ever played under.
You would have thought he was tactically inept & flogged the players to death if you believed some of the comments on here.
Would have been shocked if he said anything else. RDZ was the only manager to allow him his preferred role as a no 10 when he switched positions between Mac and Gross. Potter, Klopp and Slot all played/plays him as a 6 or 8.

I can see why he wants to play there - you get to be more involved in the decisive stuff - and he is indeed a very good 10, but personally I think with his reading of the game, passing and work rate he's too good in the defensive/build up game not to play deeper.

Top class player and seems a top class person.

He wants to be Argentina's number 10 and to do that he needs to be in that position for his club team

After watching this amazing interview and seeing how grounded Alexis is and how he presents himself. I know some part of this is down to the Albion.
It got me thinking that as Lineker was banging on about Messi, AM loves playing with him and as AM was plucked from South America by the Albions scouting network.
In another time, what if the Albion had scouted Messi and had him playing for us for a while before disappearing into greater things, wouldn't that have been something 🤔

How good is Lineker? A wonderful, natural conversation, with no notes, because he's been there as a pro and really knows his stuff.

His detractors are utterly clueless.
I have to say he does know his football with Mac I fully believe if the Liverpool move had fallen through for whatever reason he wouldn’t have sulked and carried on as normal for us. Top guy.

Was thinking the same. I do wonder if leaving the bbc will see him do more of this indepth work on tv or streaming

I think he's shrewd enough to realise, that his time is better spent on streaming services/Podcasts than TV.

He played in RDZ's first year of course and not his second. Had he been here then his view might have been different!

I also think he’s genuinely interested and wants to listen to what others have to say. This, to varying degrees, isn’t always the case with interviewers.

Totally agree with your last sentence
