For the same reasons Bissouma didn't sign a new contract.

If he wants to make it like 10 times more difficult to make a big move next summer, and limiting his options to England, then yes signing a new contract would be wise. Other than that it would make no sense.

I think you might be proved incorrect …… obviously things change but both him and the club and keen to get a new deal sorted.

I think TB showed with Bissouma last year that while the club doesn't want players to go for free but that the maximum value might not be more important than keeping him for the rest of the season.

The exception to this would probably be if Mac Allister is dominant in the World Cup and his value skyrockets to £80m or something. Only English clubs can pay that kind of money however and I think we can rule out one of the top clubs for the time being, so there might not be a lot of available clubs willing to pay up.
