They’ve been playing ‘top level’ for over 20 years; they have improved all over the pitch to be fair, some of the technique is very good and tactics too. However in that time the goalkeeping has not improved one bit, they are shocking. So it can’t be coaching, facilities, other work commitments, so what is it then?

There are some extremes on here, for sure. But let's say the standard is National League (which is probably only true of some players). What chance do you think a National League player would have of being invited in as a pundit to give their view on a Premier League game, based on their expertise? Ok, yes, she will have played in front of some big crowds (mingled in with the 900ish average for the women's game) - so let's say he'd been in a couple of FA Trophy Finals..

Like the majority of men's football, the women's game is great for those that are playing it.

I don't think levels of play have anything to do with understanding the game.

Mourinho and Wenger hardly kicked a ball in their careers and did alright for themselves.

It's also why we can look at games and have opinions and ideas on tactics or players or the financial state of global football likely without having played at any level.

To say you have to have been at the top of your profession in order to have your knowledge be taken seriously is patently ridiculous.

Nearly all the pundits talk crap during the breaks or before/after games whether male or female.

That's why I don't turn on the TV until the start of a game and at half time turn it off. Who really wants to listen to Souness/Redknapp/Scott or whoever it is rant on for 10 to 15 mins at a time?

MOTD is the same - I record it and then on Sunday watch the highlights and fast forward through the inane chatter. Easy! Plus you can watch what is a 90min programme inside of 45mins saving yourself time to do something else.

Surely this is all about equality and giving the under represented an opportunity.
Whether it's sex, race or disability every part of society deserves to be heard equally and be given the same chances.
It will take a couple of generations but we're slowly moving in the right direction.
The bench mark for quality has to be initially lowered to give others a chance before they gain the experience to catch up.

It doesn't mean women in sports will ever be able to compete equally with men in most sports, but they should be equally involved.
If we don't introduce change, change will never happen.

I'm just a thick working class bloke, but surely it's not rocket science as to why more opportunities are being provided.
Look no further than women in the cricket media with Ebony Rainford-Brent, Alison Mitchell and Isha Guha having been given opportunities. I would rather listen to any of them ahead of Boycott or Botham.

Women’s football is a totally different game from mens. It relies far more on skill with the ball at feet to compensate for the lack of physical strength and pace. If you watch it thinking that, rather than expecting a similar standard to men’s pro football, then it’s all good.

Their game will evolve along a different path to men’s. At the moment the women have affiliation with a male pro team, play in the same colours, share the same facilities etc.

In the future I hope that they form their own clubs and build their own stadia...and fill them...based on their own merit and pay the women based on their own revenue without relying on handouts from the men. Until then...we’ll be having this debate

5000 plus. East lower and right hand side of North (as you face it).

Both sets of fans mixed, with Arsenal more vocal. The chants were of the 1950s variety.

In this case not about the level as it’s incomparable. I’ve played and coached to a fairly reasonable level, and would think that most Ryman and even County League teams would beat the ladies.

In terms of Alex Scott, although stating the obvious (as most of the pundits do), she is every bit as knowledgeable as most of her male counterparts - and arguably as much personality.

Adam Virgo is an excellent co-commentator and pundit and often talks about football way above the standard he ever played. Is that the same?
