Just walked in from work to find Mrs Red Star and her mate bouncing about to this! Great way to start the weekend.

Auteurs - New Wave

Inspired by this thread I stuck this on all the way through with some trepidation. Relieved to say it comfortably stood up beyond my nostalgia.

A song from Manassas - double album of the same name popped up on ipod on shuffle this morning. Haven't heard the album in years but will make a point of listening this weekend. I remember it as a great album...we'll see.

Everything But The Girl - Walking Wounded. Possibly the greatest album ever written and one I have just listened to for a long, long time.

Aswad - New Chapter in Dub. I was listening to this on the train this morning and it near blew me away with how good it still sounds.

This was another of the first albums I played on my new record player. Tonight it was Catch Bull at Four. Only played side one so far but it really is a darned good album. Saw him at the Dome, presumably in the 70s with Alun Davies accompanying him on acoustic guitar. Really fired up my own enthusiam to play and blow me, got my guitar out again tonight.

Cat Stevens really turned out some brilliant stuff in his heyday.

Tago Mago - Can
QUOTE]

Not many other records/ bands can claim to still sound like the future on a record released over 40 years ago. Can continue to astonish me, they were an absolute once in a generation band.

Totally agree. And to give everyone an idea of how out-there this band was take look at the musical landscape of the time. Here is the top 10 the month Tago Mago was released:

1 George Harrison My Sweet Lord
2 Mixtures Pushbike Song
3 Ashton, Gardner & Dyke Resurrection Shuffle
4 Supremes Stoned Love
5 Mungo Jerry Baby Jump
6 Judy Collins Amazing Grace
7 Perry Como It's Impossible
8 Badfinger No Matter What
9 Elton John Your Song
10 Clive Dunn Grandad

I was listening to LCD's Sound of Silver this morning. Not very old but a classic album and owes a huge debt to Can and the other Krautrockers.
