How many Albion fans/NSC era actually make music?

We, The Dials, released our album 'That was the future' late last year, and are still promoting it. . .

https://www.thedials.co.uk/

Steve Mason has been recording a new Album . . . In Brighton. Expect something from him later this year.

Just been listening to a few of your tracks. I like it a lot. Best of luck matey...and if you want to talk Steve Mason then Penvenseagull is your man. I believe that Steve Mason has been known to do a few DJ sets in Pevenseagull's boozer too.

Regards other bands with Brighton fans in them, there's of course Royal Blood but there's also another band whose name escapes me. They have an indie-guitar sound, there's 5 or 6 of them and the music video I remember watching was of them up on Devil's Dyke. One of the lads was in an old Brighton Skint top. I think I might have posted about it on NSC 2 or 3 years ago but can't find it though.

Anyone else able to help?

Fair enough! You'll know Andy (Pevenseagull) too then. Ask him about the time he got up on stage with Mark E Smith with a whole sea bass in his coat pocket.

I think Steve Mason is a genius ever since the Beta Band days. How in God's name his Boys Outside album never won prizes, I don't know. It's a stone-cold classic. I'm also a huge fan of this collaboration with Scroobius Pip. Love, love, love this song.

He’s a thoroughly decent, and very amusing, bloke as well. I saw him do an acoustic gig here a few years back. It was in a lovely little old bath house and after the gig me and the missus were having a beer and he came out with his rider and chatted to everyone. He also shared his rider red wine and crisps or whatever food it was.

Agree about his genius. His second solo album, Monkey Minds In The Devil’s Time, is wonderfully chaotic but incredibly coherent as well. I know this doesn’t make sense but if any of you don’t this album give it a listen and you’ll understand; it takes something special to achieve this.

Not seen this guy mentioned before but I love this song - such evocative lyrics. How can someone Danish write such good English? He has a new album out this year, look forward to it.

Love that First Aid Kit track. They're really at the top of their game at the moment. Everything they release is just perfect pop.

Regards the Danish lad - thanks Gwylan, he's new to me too and that kind of folky guitar sound is more Icelandic sounding but I'm really not too surprised to hear that he's Danish given how much great music is coming from Scandinavia at the moment. There's a brilliant website that I swear by, devoted entirely to Nordic music that is well worth checking out if you aren't already familiar with it: https://jajajamusic.com/

I've been listening to Jack White's new single Connected By Love. It's all indie-guitar with some epic singing too. A great singalong record for sure.

Thanks for that - looks like I have a few new names to catch up on.

Menke's another name that hasn't been mentioned yet - Swedish this time - she released this in November and it's beautifully haunting. I don't know anything about her

I'm off to lose myself in Nordic pop ....

That is right up my street and once again a new name for me. Let me return the favour with this Swedish songstress and her album from late last year. Very much in a similar vein.

Another one on the 'Steve Mason is a genius' train here.
I wouldn't put it quite that strongly - but I like most of what he's done and always check out his new releases.

Have you ever been to Bluesface*?

*A once a month night at Coopers Cask pub in Hove/Brighton held by Steve Mason ( Beta Band/King Biscuit Time etc ). The most open music policy you can imagine with occasional guest DJs. From around 9pm until 1am on roughly the last Saturday of every month. An alcohol fuelled musical odyssey. EFM- eclectic freedom music-

No longer monthly, more as and when
