[HH Brighton]

The Avalanches released their third album in mid December - which was last year, but what the Hell...

It's called We will always love you.

It is utterly brilliant, mesmeric, infectious and full of intriguing guest appearances. Late as is was, it still became my album of last year.

Really liking Black Country, New Road and their debut For the First Time. The Guardian mentioned Black Midi and Arcade Fire and I can get this. They also mentioned Slint but I havnt heard anything by this band so can’t comment. Be interested to hear what [MENTION=28490]Machiavelli[/MENTION] thinks.

Wow. Surprised you haven't heard Slint, which were a bit of a cult band in the 90s -- for those interested in lo-fi and dynamics, etc, Spiderland is the album. They (inevitably) re-formed a while back, and I saw them then, but thought they were rather dull. A few of them went on to form The For Carnation, and their eponymous album is worth a spin too.

I was fortunate to discover Slint when they were going and have first pressings of their two albums. Spiderland is the latter day equivalent of the Velvets first album - didn’t sell well but an influential release to hundreds of bands over the years. Sadly they split before that album was released. I saw them during their first reformation tour at the Forum in 2005. The Brighton show in 2014 a bit lacklustre.

Haven't heard it, but will give it a spin. You'll note that the post from [MENTION=3076]redoubtable seagull[/MENTION] is much better than mine, as is his musical knowledge, which has better depth (and probably breadth) than mine.

That new Black Country, New Road album is very good. If you liked it couldn’t reccomend Slint highly enough. My friend calls them the second best Slint Tribute band. I’ve seen them live and they are even better than recorded, especially with the 6 or 7 members on stage. Squid who are a very similar vein are releasing an album later in the year which I’m sure I will be impressed by judging by the early singles.

Also liking two bands, Chappaqua Wrestling, from Hurstpierpoint/Brighton, all lads are mates with my brother and their music is bloody nice indie rock. Have been heard on Radio1 and Radio 6 Music with Mark Riley.

Another band, who use the Rolling Stones and OASIS as their influence, is Afflecks Palace, Many band who have a real nitty gritty sound and definitely one to watch out for. Very similar sounds to 90s indie rock.

Really enjoying Chappaqua Wrestling, especially the bass! Really adding something to the groove.

I very much get the Slint reference too, although it is also reminiscent of the (for me) criminally underrated Black Flower in there. I don't know if I've banged on about them to you in the past, but Future Flora and, especially, Artefacts are well worth a spin.
