hmmm, I've only bought the Beastie Boys and Mogwai ones on that list but do hanker after the Horrors (who hail from Sourhend of all places). I'd add to those 2 the following most pleasing purchases of 2011 releasesmade by ggodself in sunny Perth;
Computers & Blues - The Streets
Zonoscope - Cut Copy
Beady Eye - Different Gear Still Speeding
The Strokes - Angels
The Go! Team - Rollling Blackouts
Cake - Showroom Of Compassion
Death In Vegas - Trans-Love Energies (even if the fuckers cancelled their Perth show and gave no reason for it)

Beady Eye

You don't rate SUUNS? I think it's an excellent album. Agree on War on Drugs.

Do like the SUUNS one, was just lower down my list. But to be honest they have sent some crackers this year. Cat's Eyes and Wild Flag were great too and Gui Borrato.

With you on Gui Boratto. I have just bought his first album and ordered his second from Rounder.

How the f*** is M83 - HurryUp,We'reDreaming not on there?!

Easily my number 1.

Having now bought and listened to it several times I have to agree. Though up until your post and my cousins facebook post about them, I had never heard of them. So cheers :thumbsup:

It's their best album, but the back catalogue is worth a listen as well.

Other music

Whilst I love indie music and similar. it would be great to see some lists of other forms of music

e.g folk, world, classical, choral, jazz etc.

As I would like to delve into other areas of music for a change.

Cheers guys

After listening to a few on these lists, the only ones that I consider worth buying are The Vaccines & P J Harvey.

M83 is a grower but seems to be a couple of superb tracks packed out with fillers. Time may change my opinion.

Wow! I'm 57 years old and I can say with complete honesty I have heard of just 2 of these 50 artists, namely PJ Harvey and Mogwai. Can anyone beat me and get less than 2? I will endeavour to listen to them all on youtube though so thanks for the heads up and the many hours of listening ahead

War on Drugs - Slave Ambient
Good place to start. Tom Petty meets Spirtualized as Resident say!

Good list, its nice to see top albums list that don't just consist of the biggest names in the charts. The following are my favourites:

5.HYETAL - "Broadcast" (Special Branch)
12.SBTRKT - "SBTRKT" (Young Turks)
13.METRONOMY - "The English Riviera" (Because)
25.JAMIE WOON - "Mirrorwriting" (Interscope)
31.MOGWAI - "Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will" (Rock Action)
40.EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY - "Take Care Take Care Take Care" (Bella Union)
45.RUSTIE - “Glass Swords” (Warp)

Along with:

Jamie XX & Gil Scott-Heron - We're New Here
Zomby - Dedication
Little Dragon - Ritual Union

Re. that Jamie XX / Gil-Scott Heron collaboration - did you really like it then? I think you're the first person I've heard that does. I thought it was a bit of a mess and I'm not sure what he was trying to get at with his remixes. The original was just so good and I find the remix album very unapproachable. One remix album that sticks out this year was the Dennis Bovell dub remix of Steve Mason's Boys Outside.

I think the first 6-7 tracks are all complete belters, then it does drift a bit admittedly.

I have bought f*** all albums this year, probably because I've been listening to too much deep house. Props to the Azari & iii album though which is pretty interesting and the Gruff album is obviously quality.
