How many matches have we played where the OUTCOME of that one final match meant WE won/promoted or LOST/relegated.

1971/72 - Rochdale needed a draw and drew so went UP. Celebration

1977/78 - Blackpool won but stitched up at The Dell . Despair

1978/79 - Newcastle won. Celebration

1980/81 - Leeds won and stayed up. Celebration.

1982/83 - Man United Cup Replay. Despair

1987/88 - Bristol Rovers , won and went up. Celebration

1990/91 - Notts County play off final lost. Despair

1996/97 - Hereford won and stayed up. Celebration

2003/04 - Bristol City play off final won. Celebration

2008/09 - Stockport, won and stayed up. Celebration

2015/16 - Middlesboro , who knows ?

We have a pretty good record in the past in these kind of matches , hopefully it may not come to a last game shoot out

When was the Grimsby defeat and despair. Thought that was a last game

It was, but I don't think it was in our hands that day. Believe we were relying on other results, and, with the way they fell, would have gone down even if we'd won that game.

Not to go up, but we did need to beat Forest in 2014 to make the play-offs and won.

Another one where we were also relying on others?

(thanks once again, Reading!).

...and every now and again people around us listening on crackling transistor radios kept leaping about as if one team had scored...so setting the Chicken Run off.....

Yep believe it or not Stoke City could also have gone down that day but they won thus the Grimsby game even if we won would have meant bugger all. Also I think we DREW that day as well 2-2?

1983 Highbury semi-final against Sheff Wed. More than any other match I wanted us to win that one so that I could see Brighton and Hove Albion play in the FA Cup Final at Wembley. That match really was 'our cup final'.

Take out the cup and play offs and focus on crucial last league games of the season...

We have a 100% RECORD of doing what we need to when it is in our hands in a massive final day of the season match.

If we go to Boro needing a win, or a draw, to go up then we WILL get it.

1977/78 was out of our hands, so if you're including that, then you need to include the Sheffield Utd 1-0 home win in 1985 where we also needed Pompey and Man City to lose and Leeds and Blackburn not to win as well as needing a win ourselves for promotion.

We did our bit, only Leeds did theirs. (And that was the game someone died at Birmingham v Leeds)
