You stand, you sing, people stare and moan they can't see, you sit down, you shut up. Welcome to Withdean. There's only every any noise when the referee cocks up, and that soon dies down. There's just NO singing - we must have the most schizophrenic support, best in country away, second worst at home.

LMFAO if you think your support is bad take a look at ours. Absolute silence at home even though there is 26,000 of us and we have so far only sold 300 tickets for Arsenal away. I got mine obviously and go to as many away as I can (depending on price and travel costs) and always sing but I am very embarrased at our poor poor following.

So if you lot all think your support is the worst you are so very wrong

On the TV Monday, the Saints fans were loud compared to you and at home they've only got one song.

I would LOVE IT if we drew someone like Charlton or Southampton away in the Cup. Extra allocation - guaranteed to really piss off the people at St Marys, esp as their singing section would have to move

:clap2:

Fatboy, I thought I was going to have a heart attack on Saturday mate, was such a great afternoon.

You hit the nail on the head, though, re: withdean. People who report fans for getting worked up. For crying out loud! I think fairplay if you're a racist thug, but singing / shouting you heart out, christ that's what being a devoted football fan's all about.

Anyway, I don't understand how it's physically possible for someone to support a team, go to a match and NOT shout and sing. It's a natural, instinctive thing surely?

if you got us you wouldeasily beat us, after all against lower league teams we are AWFUL.

You would also out sing us and probably sell more tickets than us.

Don't f***ing get me started on this one.

My club does absolutely f*** ALL to attract fans.
Stoke city let EVERYBODY in for FIVE pounds, and get 23,000, and we charge people the best part of £20 and get half that.
I've sent a long rant to Andy West, our "Head of Communications", and I'm eagarly waiting for a reply.
We have nothing in the town centre to suggest we've got a football team, the only way people find out when games are on is if they go to the stadium, and its not good enough.

THAT is why we get shit attendances.
The club does NOTHING to attract fans, and it really pisses me off.

If you take away the away attendance on the first day of the season, Reading had 12,712.

Whichever way you look at it this is poor for the first day of the season.

In all seriousness, there are lessons to be learnt here for Falmer. If the team is successful, the ground will fill but you have to be alive to the techniques for getting people through the door when things aren't going so well.

If your break-even attendance is 12,000 at £20 per head, that's ticket revenue of £240,000. You could fill a 22,000 ground AND make your break-even money if you reduce the entrance fee to £11.

I know it's not quite as straight-forward as that but the principle is right. I bet the players would rather play in front of full houses

Worst of all was the complete absence of Sussex by the Sea.

How can we go a whole game and NOT sing our own anthem?
And after continuously singing it at Watford?

Schizophrenic fans indeed...

:(

H/J block did sing Sussex by the Sea. We were singing for part of the game but then it tailed off which is when Krispies stood up and had a rant.

The hardcore fans go to away games, but only the hardcore so we can sing and sing and sing. But at Withdean we're all dispersed amongst the rest of the crowd, who do indeed give out foul looks if any kind of singing is attempted. The exception being the Swindon semi-final last year, that was a terrific atmosphere which just backs up the point that not having a roof is no excuse!

Chesterfield away on an open terrace with only a few was pretty noisy too.

The secret is the singers getting together instead of being scattered.

I agree with what's been said here and I don't blame the lack of a roof, although I really think the club should give us one.

Newcastle never had a roof at their home end before they redeveloped St James Park - they're not not for being quiet.

As others have said, everyone is scattered and mixed up with people who, to be honest, you would not choose to sit next to, given the choice was there. In my row in F block there's an old woman who "tuts" when you go past her - and that's only coming in for kick off, FFS.

I think the answer for Withdean is to get a proper stand behind one goal that we can call the true singing section. The clubs attempt at controlling us by putting the so called singing secion by the cornerflag beggars belief.

Where are the extra seats?

And I don't really think we are too much quieter than most clubs at home these days.

Loudest vocal support I've seen:

away - Portsmouth

home (Withdean) - Stoke

home (Goldstone) - Millwall

Ive been to every away game this season and no home ones yet and I dont think im the only one going by previous threads.
Withdean wont get any better,we just have to wait for Falmer.
